Eagles extend winning streak to four meets against Bowling Green

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University gymnastics team opened the 2026 season with a 192.925-191.900 victory over Mid-American Conference foe Bowling Green State University Sunday, Jan. 11, inside the Stroh Center. The Eagles recorded seven milestone performances in the meet, highlighted by five collegiate debuts and two career-best scores.

How It Happened:
Eastern opened the meet on bars with a 47.925 team score. Sophomore Keeley Kohler (Davison, Mich./ Powers Catholic) claimed first place in the event with a team-best 9.775, followed by senior Kyrie Lowe (Lake Worth, Fla./Park Vista), who finished second with a 9.750. Freshman Georgie Slack (Uttoxeter, England/Thomas Alleynes) made her collegiate debut on bars and scored a 9.450.

The Eagles shifted to vault for the second rotation and recorded a 48.675 team score. Sophomore Gwendelyn Cantu (Joliet, Ill./Providence Catholic) claimed first place in the event with a 9.775, while Lowe finished second with a 9.750. Freshman Savanna Dunwoody (Spearfish, S.D./Spearfish) and transfer Kendall Landry (Frisco, Texas/Wakeland) tied for third in their Eastern debuts, each posting a 9.725, while Abby Brushwood (State College, Pa./State College Area) tied for fifth with a 9.700. Slack also made her collegiate vault debut, earning a 9.650.

Eastern moved to the floor for the third rotation and posted a 47.525 team score. Brushwood tied for first in the event with a 9.750, while Lowe and Dunwoody each earned 9.600 and tied for fifth. Freshman Macy Nihart (East Lansing, Mich./Home School) made her collegiate floor debut with a 9.475, while Brianna Lucas (Marietta, Ga./Lassiter) competed on floor for the first time in her career and scored a 9.100. Priya Karle (Canton, Mass./Canton) rounded out the rotation with a 9.050.

Beam closed the meet for Eastern, as the Eagles delivered their strongest rotation with a season-high 48.800. Jackie Patterson (Mason, Ohio/Mason) claimed first place in the event with a career-high 9.875, while Analiah Solorio (Littleton, Colo., Chatfield Senior) finished second with a career-best 9.850. Katin Childress (Prosper, Texas/Prosper) placed third with a 9.800, and Nihart added a 9.600. Lowe closed the rotation with a 9.675, securing the event and the meet.

Lowe was the only gymnast from either team to compete in the all-around, posting a score of 38.775.

With the season-opening victory, Eastern improved to 11-13 all-time in its first meet of the year and has now opened the season against a Mid-American Conference opponent 16 times. The win also marked a positive start away from home after the Eagles went 0-5 on the road in 2025, improving their all-time road record to 54-105.
