BENTON HARBOR, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — The Eastern Michigan University men's golf is set to return to action, Sunday-Monday, Sept. 28-29, when the Eagles compete in the inaugural Jim DeLapa Collegiate, which will be played at Point O' Woods Golf & Country Club in Benton Harbor, Mich. One of 13 teams in the field and one of three from the Mid-American Conference, the Eagles will compete in their home state for the first time since taking part in the 2022 Folds of Honor Collegiate in Grand Haven, Mich., Sept. 26-28, 2022.
 
THIS WEEK'S LINE UP
Here are the Eagles that will compete at the Jim DeLapa Collegiate:

» Robby Turnbull, who made his EMU debut this week, has been invited to compete in a pair of international tournaments in October. He will represent Team New Zealand at the 2025 World Amateur Team Championships in Singapore (Oct. 8-11) and the 16th Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship (Oct. 23-26) in United Arab Emirates.
» Seven former Eagles are currently competing on professional tours, led by Brett White, who currently sits fourth on the Fortinet Cup standings with the top 10 finishers earning Korn Ferry Tour exemption for 2025-26. The others competing are Michael Blair, Beau Breault, Ty Celone, Cougar Collins, Cam Kellett, Zack Mason, and Eddie Maunder.
» The Eagles are slated to play in six events this fall with stops in four different time zones, including Eastern (Michigan and Florida), Central (Illinois), Mountain (Arizona and New Mexico), and Hawaiian. All told in 2025-26, EMU will play in 12 total events, including spring events in Alabama, California, Florida, Ohio, and Texas, before playing in the 2026 MAC Championships in Zionsville, Ind. (May 3-5).
» EMU's roster features seven players with two returning players in Tim Chan and Rory McDonald-O'Brien, the 2025 MAC runner-up. Both seniors are set for the final collegiate campaigns this year after averaging 72.8 (No. 12 in EMU history) and 73.3 (No. 21) strokes, respectively, last year.
» There are five newcomers to the roster this year, including three transfers and two freshmen. The transfers include senior Leo Mihaich (Argentina/Oklahoma Christian) and juniors Charlie Box (England/Hutchinson CC) and Carlos Fernández Mortera (Spain/Charleston). The two freshmen include Joshua Hess (Switzerland) and Robby Turnbull (New Zealand).
 
TOURNAMENT INFO: THE FACTS
The Jim DeLapa Collegiate will be played Sept. 28-29 on the Point O' Woods Golf & Country Club in Benton Harbor, Mich., with the course playing at par-72 and measuring 7,100 yards. The course has been ranked in the top 100 in the country for the past 40 years and has played host of the Western Amateur 41 times.
 
TOURNAMENT INFO: THE FIELD
The field for the Jim DeLapa Collegiate features 13 teams, including a trio of Mid-American Conference squads in Eastern Michigan, host Central Michigan, and Northern Illinois. The remaining teams in the field include Chicago State, Cincinnati, Florida Gulf Coast, Grand Canyon, Michigan, Pacific, Princeton, St. Mary's (Calif.), San Francisco, and San Jose State.
 
IN THE RANKINGS • TEAMS
While none of the teams in the field are ranked in the top 25 of the Bushnell/Golfweek Coaches Poll for Sept. 19, three teams received votes, including Cincinnati (36 votes), Michigan (8), and Florida Gulf Coast (3). The first set of Scoreboard/Clippd rankings are set to be released in early October. According to the final rankings from the 2024-25 season, the field features eight teams that were ranked among the top 100, including No. 57 FGCU, No. 58 Grand Canyon, No. 62 Pacific, No. 68 St. Mary's, No. 75 Michigan, No. 77 Cincinnati, No. 84 Princeton, and No. 94 San Jose State. Additionally, FGCU, GCU, Pacific, and Princeton each competed in the NCAA Regionals last year.
 
RECAP: TUCKER INVITATIONAL
The Eagles tied for 15th at the William H. Tucker Invitational in Albuquerque, N.M., Sept. 19-20, to cap a week that also saw them play at the Highlands Invitational in Westchester, Ill., earlier in the week. As a team, EMU finished 7-over (295-286-290=871) while Joshua Hess tied for 24th at 2-under 214 (72-71-71) as he shot at or under par in all three rounds for the first time in three tournaments with the Eagles. Additionally, his 214 strokes were one off his collegiate best of 213 that he shot in the season-opening Whirlwind Collegiate Invitational (Sept. 8-9).
 
PRO EAGLES: FINAL ROUNDS
A trio of former Eagles are currently competing in the PGA TOUR America's season-ending Fortinet Cup Championship, which is being played Sept. 25-28, on Morgan Creek Golf Course in Surrey, BC. Beau Breault, Cougar Collins, and Brett White are all in the field with White (fourth) closing in on his Korn Ferry Tour exemption for 2026 as the top 10 players in the Fortinet Cup standings following this week's event will earn a play on the KFT. Breault entered the tournament at No. 24 in the standings.
 
GETTING CREATIVE
The PGA TOUR Q School event is not the only tournament on Kyle Rodes' schedule as the former Eagle was invited to compete in the inaugural The Golf Creator Open, Oct. 4, at Palm Aire Oaks Golf Club in Pompano Beach, Fla. The event will feature 100 social media golf creators with a 9-hole content scramble taking place at 8 a.m. with the open tournament starting at noon.
 
INTERNATIONAL DUTY
Robby Turnbull has been selected to represent Team New Zealand in a pair of international tournaments in October with one in Singapore and one in the United Arab Emirates. First, Turnbull and TNZ will take part in the 2025 World Amateur Team Championship, Oct. 8-11, on the Tampines Course at Tanaha Merah Country Club in Singapore where the teams will compete for the Eisenhower Trophy. Later in the month, Turnbull will compete in the 16th Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship, Oct. 23-26, on the Majlis Course of the Emirates Golf Club in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Turnbull competed in the event in 2024, tying for 49th in Japan.
 
LOGGING MILES
The Eagles will once again spread their wings and play in tournaments in 11 different states in 2025-26, including five of the six time zones across the United States. In the fall, Eastern is set to play in tournaments in Arizona, Florida, Hawaii, Illinois, Michigan, and New Mexico before taking part in events in Alabama, California, Florida, Indiana, Ohio, and Texas during the spring season.
 
ON THE HORIZON
Eastern returns to action Oct. 6-7 when the Eagles travel to Estero, Fla., to compete in the West Bay Collegiate Invitational at West Bay Golf Club. The Eagles were slated to play in the event one year ago, but rain washed out the entire tournament.
