Eagles excel in academics and athletics in 2024-25

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — Eastern Michigan University Athletics enjoyed an extraordinary 2024-25 season, marked by an impressive haul of individual and team accolades in the Mid-American Conference and beyond.
EMU athletes earned an astounding 52 MAC Player/Athlete of the Week honors. Standout performers included football's Jesús Gómez (5x), James Djonkam (3x), Luke Murphy, and Cole Snyder; men's basketball's Da'Sean Nelson (3x) and Jalen Terry (2x); lacrosse's Mackenzie Blackwell (3x) and Maddie Porter (3x); women's golf's Savannah de Bock (2x); and track and field stars Gabe Singh (2x), Lucky Fiaku, Carson McCoy, Josephine Oloye, and Saraiah Walkes. Additional honorees spanned volleyball, gymnastics, tennis, and swimming & diving, showcasing EMU's depth and versatility.
Five Eagles were named MAC Scholar Athlete of the Week: Jesús Gómez (Football), Olivia Westphal (Women's Basketball), Raisa Boris (Gymnastics), and Mackenzie Blackwell and Tracy Grollman (Lacrosse). Additionally, 194 Eagles collected 160 conference academic accolades, including 161 student-athletes receiving recognition from the MAC and 33 more from the Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) for rowing. On top of that, 47 individuals secured CSC Academic All-District recognition. The Swim & Dive team received the CSCAA Scholar All-America Award, and the Volleyball team earned the AVCA Team Academic Award, with Kendal Bonney also securing the AVCA Demonstartor Scholarship. Both Men's and Women's Cross Country teams were honored with USTFCCCA All-Academic Awards while Lacrosse once again earned recognition from the IWLCA.
EMU athletes garnered 25 First Team All-MAC selections, including Paige Marchant (Women's Cross Country), Raisa Boris (Gymnastics), Daniella Shved (Tennis), and lacrosse stars Mackenzie Blackwell, Maddy Porter, and Annika Wozney. The Eagles also secured 35 Second Team and one Third Team All-MAC honors, alongside two All-CAA selections in rowing (Bryah Moriarty and Lily Wilhelm). Specialty awards included:
• MAC Attacker of the Year: Mackenzie Blackwell (Lacrosse)
• MAC Goalkeeper of the Year: Maddy Porter (Lacrosse)
• MAC Freshman of the Year: Megan Lupa (Swim & Dive)
• MAC Most Valuable Performer: Saraiah Walkes (Women's Track & Field)
• MAC Senior Gymnast of the Year: Raisa Boris (Gymnastics)
The lacrosse team claimed a share of the MAC regular-season championship alongside Akron and Robert Morris, the MAC-leading 159th team title for EMU. In track and field, EMU athletes won 14 MAC individual/relay titles, including Formula Thompson (Indoor Long Jump), Kian Wiles (Indoor Mile, Outdoor 1500m), Carson McCoy (Indoor 800m), and Saraiah Walkes (Indoor 200m, Outdoor 100m, 200m). The Women's 4x400m and Men's 4x100m and 4x400m relay teams also secured titles. The Rowing team's 1V8+ boat earned CAA Boat of the Week honors on May 6.
Paige Marchant (Women's Cross Country) earned NCAA Great Lakes Region All-Region honors, while 11 athletes qualified for NCAA Regionals, including Raisa Boris and Abby Brushwood (Gymnastics), Savannah de Bock (Women's Golf, program's first qualifier), and multiple track and field athletes. Megan Lupa (Swim & Dive) advanced to the NCAA National Championships in platform diving.
EMU athletes were recognized on prestigious watch lists, including Savannah de Bock (ANNIKA Award Fall Watch List, Women's Golf), Jesús Gómez (Lou Groza Place-Kicker Award), Mitchell Tomasek (Ray Guy Award), and David Carter, Jr. (Allstate Wuerffel Trophy and AFCA Good Works Team Candidate). Cole Snyder (Football) earned Manning Award Stars of the Week, and Jalen Terry (Men's Basketball) was named Oscar Robertson National Player of the Week. Twelve football players were honored by the NFF Hampshire Honor Society.
