ATHENS, Ohio (
EMUEagles.com) – Multi event student-athletes Samuel Jeffery and Shamoya Clemetson led the Eastern Michigan University track & field programs on the second day of competition at the 2025 Mid-American Conference Outdoor Championships, hosted by Ohio University, at the Goldsberry Track, in Athens, Friday, May 16. After day two, the men sit third and are up to 41 points while the women slot sixth, posting a total of 32.

Both Jeffery (Fonthill, Ontario/E.L. Crossley Secondary) and Clemetson (Naples, Fla./Barron Collier) set multiple multi-event program top-10 marks, including one program record each, earned multiple personal bests, and each recorded program top-10 overall scores in their respective event.

Points wise, the Eastern men led the day as they scored 15 points on day two and the women notched nine. The two programs combined to set 19 program top-10 marks (men: 13, women: six), 26 personal bests (men: 19, women: seven), and seven season-best marks (men: four, women: three).

How it Happened – Men
Jeffery headlined the Eagles' performances on day two as he continued his strong outing in the decathlon into the second day of competition, setting seven decathlon program top-10 marks and eight personal bests on his way to earning silver with 7,018 points, scoring eight points for the Green and White. His point total is the sixth-most in program annals since at least the 2010 season. Cason Doolittle (Findlay, Ohio/Liberty Benton) was also a bright spot, placing fourth with a career best 6,640, earning four points for Eastern.

In the field, senior jumper Formula Thompson (St. Catherine, Jamaica/Jamaica College/Nebraska) placed third in the long jump with a 7.33m (24-00.75) leap to secure eight points for the Eagles.

The preliminary rounds of the 100m hurdles, 400m dash, and 800m run were particularly strong for Eastern as all nine student-athletes punched their ticket to the finals. Bamidele Ajayi (Eikiti State, Nigeria/Metropolitan International College/Lenoir-Rhyne), Olawole Olanrewaju (Akoko North-West, Nigeria/Wallas Universal Secondary School/Lenoir-Rhyne), and Tajay Roberts (Sunrise, Fla./Dillard) placed first, fourth, and fifth, respectively in the 400m prelims while two PRs were set in the 110m hurdles prelims, led by Matt McKnight's (Miami, Fla./Miami Norland Senior) second-place showing in 14.27 (PR). He was followed by Leo Ignacio (Saline, Mich./Saline) in sixth in 14.65 (PR), and Michael Hawkins (Detroit, Mich./Cass Technical/Michigan State) also secured his spot in the final heat via a 14.79 run.

Carson McCoy (Pittsburgh, Pa./Deer Lakes) led a trio of qualifying Eagles in the 800m run first round, placing second in 1:51.49. Freshman Drew Graves (Shelby Township, Mich./Henry Ford II) slotted fifth in 1:53.52, and Lachlan Cornelius (Brisbane, Australia/Anglican Church Grammar School) rounded out the group in sixth in 1:54.50.

How it Happened – Women
Clemetson put on Eastern's best heptathlon performance of the decade, earning an outstanding nine program top-10 heptathlon marks and nine personal-bests enroute to a fourth-place finish with 5,006 points, marking EMU's best showing in the two-day event since the 2015 season. She scored five points in the process and set the program heptathlon record in the long jump with a 6.06m (19-10.75) mark that would also check into the non-heptathlon program leaderboards.

Clemetson went on to secure a spot in Saturday's 100m hurdles finals as she crossed the line eighth in 14.07, a race that saw freshman Mariah Taylor (East Lake, Fla./East Lake) earn a 14.14 personal best.

Anita Zaro (Timisoara, Romania/Faculty of Physical Education and Sport) slotted fifth in 10:55.06 in the finale of the night, the 3000m steeplechase, adding four points to Eastern's total.

Saraiah Walkes (Manatee County, Fla./The-Out-of-Door-Academy) and Ajah Arscott (Plantation, Fla./Taravella) each qualified for the finals in the 100m dash prelims. Walkes placed first in 11.45, marking a .06 PR and moving her up to fifth in the program ledgers. Arscott finished eighth in 11.84.
