Eagles named MAC Attacker and MAC Goalkeeper of the Year, respectively

CLEVELAND, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) – The Mid-American Conference announced its annual All-MAC and specialty award winners for the 2025 lacrosse season with a program-record five Eastern Michigan University student-athletes garnering accolades, including Mackenzie Blackwell being voted the MAC Attacker of the Year and Maddie Porter earning MAC Goalkeeper of the Year, the league announced, April 30. Blackwell and Porter were joined by Annika Wozney as All-MAC First Team honorees while Emerson Henry was tabbed All-MAC Second Team. Henry and fellow rookie Katheryn Wilson were named to the MAC All-Freshman Team as well.

All told, the Eagles, who shared the 2025 MAC Regular Season Championship with both the University of Akron and Robert Morris University, earned four all-conference honors (first and second-team) are the most in program history, bettering the three earned in 2024, while the three first-team selections are the most in program history ahead of the two garnered last year. EMU also tied a program record for major awards in a single season with two after Sydney Lawrence was named the 2024 Defensive Player of the Year and Porter the MAC Freshman of the Year. Overall, including Blackwell's 2023 MAC Freshman of the Year honor, the Eagles have earned at least one major award from the MAC in all three seasons of the program's existence.

Blackwell (North Beach, Md./Northern) earned a pair of honors from the MAC as she collected her second major award (2023 MAC Freshman of the Year) while earning her third All-MAC accolade after being named to the second team in 2023 and the first team last year. The top scorer in the MAC and No. 15 nationally with 3.69 goals per game, Blackwell has tallied at least three goals in 13-of-16 games played in 2025 to bring her total to 59, making her the first Eagle to score 50+ goals in a single season. The first MAC Female Scholar-Athlete of the Week recipient in program history (April 9), Blackwell was a three-time MAC Offensive Player of the Week as she broke five school records while becoming the first EMU player to hit major career milestones, including 100+ goals and 100+ points, while adding single-season milestones, including 50+ goals, 60+ points, 100+ shots. Overall, Blackwell ranks in the top 50 in three categories on the NCAA's Active Career list, including ranking 13th in goals per game average (3.06), 31st in draw controls per game (4.56), and 42nd in total goals scored (147).

Porter (Montrose, N.Y./Hendrick Hudson), the 2024 MAC Freshman of the Year, earned All-MAC First Team honors for the first time in her career after being named to the second team in her rookie season, making her one of four Eagles to earn first-team honors in the program's three-year history. One of the top keepers nationally, Porter finished the regular season with a school-record 170 saves, and improvement of 38 from last year, whiles stopping 49.4 percent of the shots she faced and allowing 11.06 goals per game, statistics that ranked her third, second, and fourth, respectively, in the MAC and 10th, sixth, and 33rd nationally. Outside of the crease, she continued to be a vacuum as she has collected 70 ground balls to lead the NCAA for the second year in a row while also collecting 12 caused turnovers. Porter, who opened the year with 18 saves against San Diego State University to post the 13th-highest total in the nation this year, became the first Eagle to record 100+ ground balls and 300+ saves in a career.

Wozney (Elk River, Minn./Elk River) earned her first postseason honor from the MAC by being named to the All-MAC First Team after earning her first accolade from the league, April 22, when she was named the MAC Defensive Player of the Week following the game with the University of Akron in which she caused five turnovers and collected three ground balls. While her 22 ground balls didn't rank in the top 10 of the league, her 19 caused turnovers placed her eighth in the MAC (1.19 per game), and, coupled with her play, helped her catch the eyes of the coaches as she was continually tasked with marking the opposing team's top attacking threat. Overall, her five caused turnovers against the Zips tied the program's single-game record and stands as the most recorded against a MAC foe as well.

Henry (Ashburn, Ontario/Donald A. Wilson) pieced together a solid rookie season and earned a pair of awards as she was named All-MAC Second Team and MAC All-Freshman to join Porter as the only two Eagles to earn all-conference and all-freshman in the same season in program history. Henry did it all for Eastern as she tallied 34 points on 24 goals and 10 assists, placed 41-of-51 shots taken on frame, collected 13 ground balls and caused 11 turnovers, and posted 94 draw controls. The first freshman in program history to record 90+ draw wins in a single season, Henry tied Blackwell's school record (94 in 2024) after taking down her freshman record (83 in 2023) to rank second in the MAC and 40th in the NCAA. She recorded at least nine draw controls in four games, including 12 against Youngstown State University (March 23) to post the third-highest total in a single game at EMU. The only freshman in the top 10 of draw controls, Henry added top three rankings among freshmen players in goals, assists, points, and caused turnovers.

Wilson (Dacula, Ga./Mill Creek) made her mark in the early part of the season as one of the top free-position goal scorers, finishing the year with seven to lead all freshmen in the conference. She tallied 34 points on 25 goals and nine assists while collecting six ground balls, six caused turnovers, and seven draw controls. Wilson made a splash in her debut as she scored four goals against SDSU. She tallied two more hat tricks on the road before posting her best game of the year, March 25, against YSU where she tallied eight points on six goals and two assists to earn MAC Offensive Player of the Week honors. The six goals against the Penguins ranked as the second-highest total in a single game in program history while the eight points are third. Overall, Wilson ranked second among freshmen in the MAC with 25 goals while sitting fourth in assists and points and fifth in caused turnovers.
