Eagles named the offensive and defensive players of the week
CLEVELAND, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) – The Mid-American Conference announced its weekly lacrosse award winners with Eastern Michigan University's Tracy Grollman being named the MAC Offensive Player of the Week and Annika Wozney the MAC Defensive Player of the Week, the league office announced today, April 22. The awards earned are the first of the season for both Eagles and raised the team's total to nine awards earned in 2025.
Grollman (Annapolis, Md./Annapolis Area Christian School) led the way with team highs in goals (five), assists (three), and points (eight), while setting career-highs in both goals and points to help EMU to its program-record eighth win of the year and its second consecutive MAC Tournament berth. One game removed from scoring six points at Kent State (April 13), Grollman posted eight to tie for the fourth-highest single-game total in program history and third-best in a MAC game at EMU. The five goals bettered her previous career high of four scored over two years ago, April 19, 2023, at Robert Morris. Grollman's five goals were not the only hat trick she recorded as she posted a double-hat trick by adding three goals, earning the distinction for the second time in her career and just the third time in program history.
Grollman's fifth and final goal, which game at 11:10 remaining in the fourth, gave the Eagles a 13-12 lead, a lead they would not relinquish, while standing at the second game-winning goal of Grollman's career and her second this year after scoring the winner against Detroit Mercy, April 6. With Eastern trailing, 7-5, she scored the first of the five goals, which also started a stretch of four consecutive goals scored by Grollman. The streak tied for the longest in program history and marked the second time in her career she scored four in a row with the first instance coming at Robert Morris, April 19, 2023.
Wozney (Elk River, Minn./Elk River) had another solid day on defense as she recorded five caused turnovers and three ground balls. The five caused turnovers bettered her previous career high of four recorded earlier this year against Canisius (March 1) and tied for the single-game record at EMU with Sydney Lawrence, who accomplished the feat twice. The five caused turnovers also tie for the most by a MAC player this year and, coupled with the four recorded against Canisius, makes her the only player in the MAC to record four or more in two games this season. She helped the defense hold Akron scoreless in the fourth to turn a one-goal deficit into a four-goal win, giving EMU its program-record eighth win this year.
The award for Grollman is her first of the season and second of her career after also earning the honor Feb. 27, 2024, while Wozney earned her first career weekly award and the first defensive honor for the Eagles this year. Grollman, who secured the fifth offensive award for the Eagles this year, is joined by Mackenzie Blackwell (North Beach, Md./Northern), who earned the award three times (March 4, April 8, April 15), and Katheryn Wilson (Dacula, Ga./Mill Creek), who earned it once (March 25). The remaining three honors belong with Maddie Porter (Montrose, N.Y./Hendrick Hudson), who was named the MAC Defensive Player of the Week three times this year (March 4, March 11, and April 8).
