MUNCIE, Ind. (EMUEagles.com) — Championship gold is on the line for the Eastern Michigan University women's golf team as the Eagles will venture to Delaware Country Club in Muncie, Ind., for the 2025 Mid-American Conference Championships, hosted by Ball State University, Sunday-Tuesday, April 20-22. The Eagles are one of 10 teams set to compete on the par-72, 6,053-yard course that will determine the team and individual conference champions, both of which will earn automatic berths into the 2025 NCAA Regional Championships in early May.
ON THE COURSE FOR EASTERN
Here are the Eagles that could compete in the 2025 MAC Championships (alphabetical):

» Julianna Go (So.) • 78.4 avg. • Finished a season-best T-8th at the Boilermaker Spring Classic (4/6-7)

» Riley Kim (So.) • 77.1 avg. • MAC Golfer of the Week (3/7); finished career-best 4th at River Landing (3/4-5)
» Erina Tan (Fr.) • 76.1 avg. • Finished T-6th in her most recent tournament (River Landing, March 4-5)
» Mariana Vega (Fr.) • 75.2 avg. • Shot career-best 217 at Gators Invite (3/7-8) to tie for 21st overall

» The Eagles are heading into the MAC Championships looking for their first league title in program history. Eastern has been close in the past as they have finished second seven times and third three times.
» Eastern has competed in three events this year with fellow MAC opponents and holds a 3-2-0 record in head-to-head competition. EMU is 1-0-0 against Akron, 0-1-0 against Kent State, 0-1-0 against Northern Illinois, and 2-0-0 against Toledo. The Eagles faced Akron, Kent State, and Toledo at the Boilermaker Spring Classic, April 6-7, the last tournament EMU played ahead of this week's conference event.
» As a team, the Eagles' best four-players season scoring average is 301.2, which is 2.8 strokes ahead of the current school record of 304.0 that was set in 2015-16.
» Individually, two Eagles currently hold season stroke averages that rank in the top 10 of the program's top 10, including Savannah de Bock and Mariana Vega, who are first (72.4) and fifth (75.2), respectively.
» Of the six possible players at the MAC Championships for the Eagles, all six have recorded at least one top 10 finish this year with Julianna Go being the latest to add her name to the list after finishing tied for eighth at the Boilermaker Spring Classic (April 6-7). Savannah de Bock leads the way with six finishes in the top 10, including a victory at the Golfweek Red Sky Classic (Sept. 23-25).
» Eastern enters the week ranked No. 126 in the latest Scoreboard/Clippd NCAA Division I rankings, the third-highest the team has climbed this year, surpassed only by the No. 124 ranking achieved March 12 and the No. 125 earned last week. The Eagles never climbed higher than No. 212 all of last season.
» EMU Assistant Coach Caterina Don competed in her third Augusta National Women's Amateur (April 2-5) in Augusta, Ga., firing a two-round score of 148 (75-73). Although she missed the cut to Saturday's final round, she finished tied for 50th in her first tournament in nearly one year while playing against 71 of the top ranked amateurs in the world.
» Savannah de Bock captured medalist honors at the Golfweek Red Sky Classic, Sept. 23-25, as she carded a 12-under, 204 to win by three strokes. It marked her first collegiate victory and the first for Eastern in two years.
» Savannah de Bock finished 12-of-15 rounds played in the fall under par, which was most of any player in the nation among all collegiate divisions. Two players tied for second at 10.
» Savannah de Bock has been named to the 2024 ANNIKA Award Fall Watch List. One of 25 players selected nationally, de Bock is on the short list for the award that is considered the Heisman of women's collegiate golf.
» The current roster is comprised of seven players, six of whom are new to the program this year. Riley Kim is the lone returning player and is joined by two transfers and three freshmen.
» The coaching staff is also new in 2024 as Josh Brewer takes over in Ypsilanti following 12 years at Georgia. Brewer has added two assistants to his staff, including Caterina Don, who was one of his top players at Georgia, and Anna Watson, a four-year member of the Eastern program, both of whom graduated in 2024.
TOURNAMENT INFORMATION
The 2025 MAC Championships will be played over three days on the par-72, 6,053-yard Delaware Country Club in Muncie, Ind., Sunday-Tuesday, April 20-22. Along with the Eagles, the 10-team tournament field includes Akron, Ball State, Bowling Green, Central Michigan, Kent State, Ohio, Northern Illinois, Toledo, and Western Michigan. Tee times start at 9:30 a.m. off No. 1 on both Sunday and Monday with Tuesday seeing teams teeing off from both No. 1 and No. 10 at 9:30 a.m.
HOOSIER HAPPENINGS
The 2025 edition of the MAC Championships will mark the seventh time the tournament has been held in the state of Indiana and the first since 2019 when it was played at Purgatory Golf Club in Noblesville for the second time (2016). In all six previous tournaments played in the Hoosier State, the Eagles have placed no lower than fourth (four times) with runner-up honors earned in 2008 at the Brickyard Course in Indianapolis and a third-place showing in 2014 at Hawthorns Golf & Country Club in Fishers.
LOOKING BACK: 2024 MAC CHAMPIONSHIPS
The 2024 MAC Championships were held at Pinnacle Golf Club in Grove City, Ohio (south of Columbus), April 21-23, with Kent State winning the title at 45-over 909, finishing 11 strokes ahead of Toledo, who was the runner-up at 56-over 920, and 28 strokes head of third-place Northern Illinois, who shot 73-over 939. The Eagles finished 10th at 108-over 972 with Sophia Wygonik leading the team by tying for 21st at 24-over 240 (74-81-85). Riley Kim, the lone returning player from the squad, finished tied for 34th at 27-over 243 (79-81-83).
IN THE RANKINGS · TEAMS
Two MAC teams are among the top 150 in the April 18 release of the Scoreboard/Clippd NCAA Division I rankings with four others inside the top 200. Kent State leads the way at No. 51 this week while Eastern is No. 126. Host Ball State is No. 159 while Bowling Green (No. 172), Northern Illinois (No. 179), and Akron (No. 196) round out the teams in the top 200.
IN THE RANKINGS · INDIVIDUAL
The April 18 Scoreboard/Clippd NCAA Division I rankings feature two players in the MAC ranked in the top 200, including one each from Eastern Michigan and Kent State. Veronika Kedronova (KSU) leads the way at No. 64 while EMU's Savannah de Bock checks in at No. 140.
MAC HISTORY • TEAM FINISHES
The MAC has held a championship tournament for the women every year since 1999 (no tournament in 2020 because of COVID) with Kent State having won all 25 titles. Both Eastern Michigan and Toledo are tied for the most runner-up finishes with seven each while the Eagles have added three third-place showing as well. The last time Eastern finished in the top three came at the 2015 event in Lebanon, Ohio, at Shaker Run Golf Course where the Eagles placed second overall by 10 strokes to KSU.
MAC HISTORY • INDIVIDUAL SHOWINGS
Individually, 21 Eagles have earned top 10 placements 29 times at the MAC Championships, including Sarah Johnson, the winner of the 2011 MAC Championship title, the only medalist honor earned in program history. Johnson, who shot even-par 216 (72-73-71) in Nashport, Ohio, at the Longaberger Golf Club, is one of five Eagles to post top three finishes with Kelsey Murphy the last to do so in 2015 (12-over 228). The last time an Eagle finished in the individual top 10 came in 2018 at Naperville Country Club where Penelope Guilleux shot 10-over 226 (75-76-75) to place 10th.
BETTER USE A PENCIL
Ahead of the season, the program finished 16 tournaments (54-holes) scoring 899 or better. Through the Gators Invitational (March 7-8), the Eagles have added five marks that list, including the No. 1 score two different times. First, the Eagles shot 879 (300-290-289) at the Rainbow Wahine Invitational (Oct. 21-23) to take down the former school record of 880 (301-293-286) shot Sept. 21-22, 2015, at the Cardinal Classic. At the Gators Invitational, EMU shot 871 (289-292-290) to lower the record by eight strokes while finishing sixth in the event. Here are the scores added this year:

LOW ROUNDS ABOUND
Similar to overall scoring, the single-round scores turned in by the Eagles this year have rewritten the record books. Entering the season, the program had produced a round of 294 or better 30 times. Through the Longhorn Invitational (March 17-18), the Eagles have posted 10 additions to the ledger, including all three rounds played in Florida as they shot 289 in round one (tie-fourth), 292 in round two (tie-14th), and 290 in the final round (tie-sixth). DE BOCK REWRITING THE BOOKS
Ahead of the season, only three Eastern Michigan players had recorded a 54-hole tournament score of 215 or lower with Anna Watson recording a then-school-record 211 at the Shirley Spork Invitational (Oct. 2-3, 2023) to lower the mark previously held by Catherine Fortin, who shot 2214 at the Shootout at the Legends, Oct. 8-9, 2017. Through eight 54-hole tournaments played this season (through the Longhorn Invitational, March 17-18), Savannah de Bock has recorded six scores of 214 or lower, including four that stand as school records.

The MAC Championships will determine if the Eagles continue their season at the NCAA Regional Championships. The Eagles will need to win the tournament to earn the league's automatic berth into the tournament.
