Golf Places Three in Top 25 to Finish Sixth at The Stitch

McDonald-O'Brien tied for eighth to lead the Eagles in North Carolina
RALEIGH, N.C. (EMUEagles.com) – Rory McDonald-O'Brien tied for eighth while Tim Chan and James Baxter each finished in the top 25 to help the Eastern Michigan University men's golf team finish sixth overall at The Stitch Intercollegiate, Friday-Saturday, April 11-12, in Raleigh, N.C.
The Eagles shot 16-over 868 (292-286-290) on the par-71, 7,171-yard Lonnie Poole Golf Course on the North Carolina State University campus and finished ahead of one team ranked in the national top 100 rankings in No. 91 University of North Carolina Wilmington, who was seventh at 17-over 869 (293-293-283). No. 99 Lipscomb University won the team title at 1-over 853 (288-277-288) with No. 84 University of North Carolina Greensboro second at 4-over 856 (285-290-281) and No. 58 NC State, the host of the event, placed third at 6-over 858 (286-292-280).
McDonald-O'Brien (Shrewsbury, England/Shrewsbury School/South Carolina Aiken) finished the two-day tournament tied for eighth place at 1-over 214 (72-71-71) as he shot par in each of the final two rounds to claim his first top 10 finish of the season and the fourth of his career. Posting back-to-back top 20 finishes for the Eagles, McDonald-O'Brien last posted a top 10 showing March 4-5, 2024, by winning the Cleveland Golf Palmetto Intercollegiate as a member of the USC Aiken team. His 214 in Raleigh ties for his lowest 54-hole score this season after he shot the same score in the team's last event, the Bell Bank "Pay It Forward" Intercollegiate, March 24-25, in Scottsdale, Ariz.
Chan (Hong Kong, China/Loretto School/New Mexico JC/VCU) tied for 20th overall as he shot 3-over 216 (74-68-74). The 68 he recorded in the second round marked the fourth time this year has shot in the 60s in a single round, one more than any of his EMU teammates, who have combined for seven such rounds in 2024-25. Chan, who finished in the top 20 for the third time this year, posted his third-lowest tournament score of the season.
Baxter (London, England/Highlands School & Sixth Form) tied for 24th at 4-over 217 (73-72-72) to post his third-lowest score of the season and record his fourth top 25 showing of the year. He was followed in the standings by Daniel Robles Delval (Albacete, Spain/Escuela Nacional Blume/Rogers State), who tied for 38th at 8-over 221 (73-75-73), and Bavake Sihota (Caledon, Ontario/Independent Learning Center/Michigan), who finished 72nd at 19-over 232 (81-75-76).

The final regular season tournament of the season awaits the Eagles next week when they travel to the Ohio State Golf Course in Columbus, Ohio, for the Robert Kepler Invitational, April 18-19. The tournament will not only be the final tune up for the team ahead of the postseason but also will give the Eagles a chance to play in similar conditions as what they could expect just over one week later just outside Columbus in Grove City, Ohio, at the MAC Championships (April 27-28).
