Blackwell and Wilson each netted hat tricks for the Eagles

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) -- Katheryn Wilson and Mackenzie Blackwell each recorded a hat trick, but it was not enough as the Eastern Michigan University lacrosse team saw an early lead erased by the University of Oregon as the Ducks claimed a 13-11 decision Friday, April 11, at Scicluna Field in Ypsilanti. The Eagles (6-7) built a 10-5 lead, but an eight-goal run by the Ducks (6-8) put the visitors ahead for good.

How It Happened
Eastern got on the board first as Emerson Henry (Ashburn, Ontario/Donald A. Wilson) scored less than two minutes into the game for a 1-0 lead. After the visitors responded, the Eagles tallied twice more for a 3-1 advantage as Mackenzie Blackwell (North Beach, Md./Northern) scored with 9:25 remaining before Abby Alderman (Lusby, Md./Patuxent) scored on a free-position shot just over one minute later. The two teams would go on to trade a pair of goals over the final eight minutes of the quarter before seeing EMU take a 5-3 lead into the break. Katheryn Wilson (Dacula, Ga./Mill Creek) scored the final two goals of the quarter for the Eagles with Henry and Karly Low (Owen Sound, Ontario/Owen Sound District Secondary) each assisting.

In the second, the Eagles scored twice to build a 7-3 as Blackwell scored off a pass from Henry before Payton Bloedow (Prior Lake, Minn./Prior Lake/Stony Brook) tallied on a free-position shot less than 30 seconds later. After the Ducks scored twice to cut the EMU lead to 7-5, the Eagles responded with the final two goals of the half for a 9-5 halftime lead. Wilson, off a feed from Ab. Alderman, and Blackwell scored the two goals as both completed their hat tricks.

Following intermission, the Eagles struck again as Roya Khaleeli (Rancho Palo Verdes, Calif./Palos Verdes Peninsula) scored on the woman-up advantage with an assist to Stella Burke (Peterborough, Ontario/St. Peter's Catholic Secondary). From there, however, EMU was held scoreless the remaining 11:39 of the period while the Ducks scored six times to take their first lead, 11-10. In the fourth, the visitors scored twice more to make it eight consecutive goals and a 13-10 lead before Henry scored her second of the game with 5:35 to play, but the Eagles could get no closer as UO escaped with the two-goal victory.

Individual Notes
» Mackenzie Blackwell finished with a three-goal hat trick, marking her 11th hat trick of the year and the 28th of her career. Her 11 hat tricks are the most in a single season at EMU, breaking the tie she held with herself after recording 10 last year. Blackwell also has recorded a hat trick against four 'Power 4' foes this year, including four goals against San Diego State (Feb. 9) and three each at No. 11 Notre Dame (Feb. 15) and No. 16 Michigan (April 2).
» Mackenzie Blackwell brought her season total to 45 goals and 49 points, leaving her four goals and five points away from tying her own school records set last year with 49 goals and 54 points. Additionally, Blackwell finished with seven shots on the day to bring her season total to 101, making her the first Eagle to reach the century mark.
» Katheryn Wilson recorded her fifth hat trick of the year with the freshman also recording a hat trick against a 'Power 4' foe for the second time after scoring four in the opener with San Diego State (Feb. 9). Wilson has scored 25 goals this year, which is second on the team behind Blackwell.
» Emerson Henry finished with a team-high four points on two goals and a career-high two assists while adding four draw controls and one ground ball. Henry, who had previously recorded one assist in five different games, has recorded back-to-back games with multiple goals for the third time in her career and the first since a three-game stretch in which she tallied two at Gardner-Webb (Feb. 27), three at home against Canisius (March 1), and two at Butler (March 7).
» Karly Low tallied the first point of her collegiate career as she assisted on a Katheryn Wilson goal in the second quarter. Low, who added two ground balls in the game, carried the ball forward on a clearing attempt and hit a cutting Wilson, who scored.
» Maddie Porter (Montrose, N.Y./Hendrick Hudson) finished with nine saves, four ground balls, and one caused turnover. With her saves, she brought her season total to 133 stops, which is the single-season record at EMU, surpassing the 132 she recorded last year. Additionally, she now has 51 ground balls, making her the only player in EMU history to tally 50+ in two different seasons.

Team Notes
» As a team, the Eagles tallied 11 caused turnovers, which ranks as the 10th-most in a single-game in program history. To reach the total, nine different players recorded at least one caused turnover with Haley Hodak (Severn, Md./Old Mill) and Annika Wozney (Elk River, Minn./Elk River) leading the way with two each.
» With two hat tricks recorded in the game, the Eagles have tallied 21 this season, which ranks as the most in program history. The previous record was 20 recorded last year.
