RALEIGH, N.C. (EMUEagles.com) -- The Eastern Michigan University men's golf team will compete in its penultimate regular season tournament this weekend when it travels to Raleigh, N.C., to compete in The Stitch Intercollegiate, hosted by North Carolina State University, Friday-Saturday, April 11-12. The 13-team event will be held on the par-71, 7,209-yard Lonnie Poole Golf Course with two rounds being played April 11 and the final round April 12.

» Rory MacDonald-O'Brien was the top finisher for the Eagles at the Bell Bank "Pay It Forward" Intercollegiate in Litchfield Park, Ariz. (March 24-25) as he tied for 17th at 2-under 214 to help the team to a fourth-place finish, a finish that placed them ahead of No. 90 Minnesota and only trailing three top 100 teams in No. 68 Iowa State, No. 49 Marquette, and No. 84 Nebraska.
» Through the "Pay It Forward" event, Tim Chan carries an average of 72.6 through 23 rounds played, which ranks as the 10th-best single-season average in program history (minimum 15 rounds played). Daniel Robles Delval joined the list this week as his 73.1 average (20 rounds) has him tied for 17th all-time.
» As a team, the Eagles sport a 292.2 four-player season average, which currently is the fifth-best average in program history. It also is currently only the fifth season average at 292.9 or lower in EMU history.
» Tim Chan fired a program-record 63 in the second round at White Sands, surpassing the 64 shot six times previously by five different players with the last coming in 2018 (Tyler Lewis).
» Tim Chan finished third at White Sands with a 14-under 202. His 202 ranks as the second-lowest in program history behind Tyler Lewis' 200 (Feb. 25-26, 2018) at the Loyola Intercollegiate.

RECAP: "PAY IT FORWARD"
The last event played by EMU was the Bell Bank "Pay It Forward" Intercollegiate (March 24-25) at Wigwam Golf Club in Litchfield Park, Ariz., where the Eagles were one of four teams to finish at even par or better as they carded rounds of 285 and 295 on the first day to sit in a tie for eighth place before shooting a 4-under 284 in the final round to move to fourth. No. 68 Iowa State won the team title at 27-under 837 with No. 49 Marquette finishing second at 25-under 839 and No. 84 Nebraska in third at 15-under 849. EMU finished ahead of Minnesota, the No. 90 team in the NCAA Division I rankings, after the co-hosts shot 13-over 877.
Individually, Rory McDonald-O'Brien was the top EMU finisher for the third time in four spring tournaments as he tied for 17th overall. His 214 (73-70-71) is the best score he has posted as a member of the program and his best collegiate score since shooting 3-under 207 to win the Cleveland Golf Palmetto Intercollegiate (March 4-5, 2024) as a member of the Rogers State program.
TOURNAMENT INFO: THE STITCH
The Stitch Intercollegiate will see 54 holes played over two days with 36 holes played Friday, April 11, and 18 holes Saturday, April 12. Action begins each day at 8:30 a.m. with a shotgun start April 11 before players going off from both No. 1 and No. 10 on April 12. The field features 13 teams with the Eagles and host Wolfpack of NC State being joined by players from Appalachian State, Belmont, East Carolina, George Washington, High Point, LaSalle, Lipscomb, Mercer, UNC Greensboro, UNC Wilmington, and Wofford.
RANKED TEAMS - THE STITCH
Four teams in the field are currently ranked in the national top 100 according to the April 9 release of the Scoreboard/Clippd NCAA Division Rankings with host NC State leading the way at No. 58. The Wolfpack is joined in the top 100 by No. 84 UNCG, No. 91 UNC Wilmington, and No. 99 Lipscomb. Four other teams are among the top 200, including No. 111 East Carolina, No. 155 EMU, No. 170 Mercer, and No. 187 High Point.
RANKED INDIVIDUALS - THE STITCH
Only one player in the field is ranked in the top 125 of the Scoreboard/Clippd NCAA Division I Rankings as NC State's Nick Mathews is currently No. 119.
BETTER THAN AVERAGE
Tim Chan has played 23 rounds this year for the Eagles and carries an average of 72.6, which currently ranks as the 10th-best in program history. The school record holder after shooting 63 in the second round at the White Sands Bahamas NCAA Men's Invitational, Chan leads the team with 82 birdies (3.6 per round).
ADDED TO THE LIST
Daniel Robles Delval has joined Tim Chan on the single-season average list as his 73.1 average ties for the 17th-best in program history. Robles Delval, who has played 20 rounds this year, is currently tied with Cougar Collins (2018-19) and Brad Pemberton (2002-03) on the list.
MOVING UP
Following the Bell Bank "Pay It Forward" Intercollegiate (March 24-25), the Eagles improved their season average to 292.2 as a team, which currently stands as the fifth-lowest four-player season average in program history (since 1969-70). As it stands, the 2018-19 squad holds the mark at 289.1 with the 2016-17 squad second at 290.4. If the season ended today, the 292.2 average would make this year's team just the fifth to record an average of 292.9 or lower.
CHAN GOES LOW
Tim Chan made major edits to the program's record book as he added his name to the top of the single-round list and moved into second on the three-round tournament ledger after play at the White Sands event (Oct. 25-27). In the second round (Oct. 26), he carded an 11-under 63 to break the school record of 64 that was recorded six times by five different players with the last coming Feb. 26, 2018, but Tyler Lewis at the Loyola Intercollegiate. In that same tournament, Lewis finished with a 16-under 200 to set the school record for 54 holes with Chan's 202 in the Bahamas now ranking second all-time at EMU.
ON THE HORIZON
The final regular season tournament of the season awaits the Eagles next week when they travel to the Ohio State Golf Course in Columbus, Ohio, for the Robert Kepler Invitational, April 18-19. The tournament will not only be the final tuneup for the team ahead of the postseason, but also will give the Eagles a chance to play in similar conditions as what they could expect just over one week later just outside Columbus in Grove City, Ohio, at the MAC Championships (April 27-28).
