FEDERAL WAY, Wash. (EMUEagles.com) – Eastern Michigan University freshman diver Megan Lupa became the first Eastern diver to compete in the platform dive in 36 years and first EMU freshman diver to compete at the NCAA Division I Swimming & Diving Championships in program history, as she placed 45th in the 10m platform dive prelims scoring 208.35 points at the 2025 edition of the meet, hosted by the Seattle Sports Commission, Washington State University, and the city of Federal Way, Wash., at the Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatic Center, in Federal Way, Wash., Saturday, March 22.
Lupa (Campden, Ontario/West Niagara Secondary) was the only MAC diver among the 2025 National Qualifiers and one of four MAC student-athletes that competed at the meet along with swimmers Abigail Daniel (Akron), Zita Szoke (Ohio), and Madeline Padavic (Miami). When it comes to freshmen competing in the platform dive, Lupa was one of just 13 that saw action in the event countrywide. Moreover, Lupa became just the second diver in Eastern Michigan history to qualify for NCAA nationals in the platform dive and the first since Mugs Cullings (EMU's first NCAA Qualifier) did so 36 years ago in the 1989 season.
The recently named Mid-American Conference (MAC) Freshman Diver of the Year punched her ticket to the national championships with a combined score of 480.20 points at the NCAA Zone C Diving Championships, marking a collegiate personal best, March 12. Additionally, the NCAA qualification was the program's 16th all-time and the first under Head Diving Coach Tom Gimm.
Lupa's performance concluded the 2024-25 season for the Eagles.
