Perkins and Gimm Sign Six to Swim and Dive Programs

The 2026-27 class will include five swimmers and one diver
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – Eastern Michigan University Head Swimming Coach Derek Perkins and Head Diving Coach Tom Gimm announced six additions to the swim and dive programs for the 2026-27 season.
The 2026 class includes athletes from four different states and two countries outside of the United States, and is made up of five swimmers and one diver. The five swimmers are Lauren Carlson, Jesse Carter, Gabia Gelumbickas, Eleanor Groves, along with Emma Jönsson, and they are joined by diver, Silvana Pomar Farias.
"We are super excited for our incoming class," said Perkins about the incoming swimmers. "They all bring immediate help to our needs for next year, but more importantly, they bring all the intangibles we look for in an Eastern Michigan swimmer. They are all confident and compassionate individuals that will make us better. I can't wait for them to step foot on campus and represent the Block E next year," Perkins concluded.
Lauren Carlson (Cary, N.C./Cary)
Event: Breast
EMU: 2026-27: Will join the program as an incoming freshman.
HIGH SCHOOL: Competing in the breaststroke events for Cary High School in Cary, N.C… Has been a captain for two years… Earned a coaches' award, and MVP for the last three years… Also has competed for New Wave Swim Team for nine years.
PERSONAL: Full name: Lauren Emily Carlson… Daughter of Jordan and Anne Carlson… Has two brothers, Jonah and Ethan, and a sister, Sarah… A native of Cary, N.C… Major: Construction management.
Jesse Carter (Lincoln, Calif./Twelve Bridges)
Event: IM/Fly
EMU: 2026-27: Will join the program as an incoming freshman.
HIGH SCHOOL: Attends Twelve Bridges High School, competing in the individual medley and butterfly events… Has won league MVP in 2023, 2024, and 2025… Also earned all-league honors in 2023, 2024, and 2025… Competed for Wolverine Aquatics for eight years.
PERSONAL: Full name: Jessica Rylee Carter… Daughter of James and Sasha Carter… Has a sister, Courtney… A native of Lincoln, Calif… Major: Business management.
Gabia Gelumbickas (Boca Raton, Fla./Boca Raton Community)
Event: Sprint/Back/Free
EMU: 2026-27: Will join the program as an incoming freshman.
HIGH SCHOOL: Attends Boca Raton Community High School, competing in sprint, backstroke, and freestyle events… Was a runner up in the state title… Was first in her most recent championship season, going undefeated… Awarded MVP two years in a row.
PERSONAL: Full name: Gabia Gelumbickas… Daughter of Arturas and Orinta Gelumbickas… Has a sister, Greta… A native of Boca Raton, Fla… Major: Political science.
Eleanor Groves (Yorktown, Ind./Delta)
Event: Free
EMU: 2026-27: Will join the program as an incoming freshman.
HIGH SCHOOL: Attends Delta High School… Currently holds the school records for the 50y, 100y, 200y, and 500y freestyle events… Is a Hoosier Heritage Conference champion and record holder in both 50y and 100y freestyle events… Also competed for Cardinal Community Swim Club for six years.
PERSONAL: Full name: Eleanor Elise Groves… Daughter of Ryan and Jennifer Groves… Has a brother, Christian… A native of Yorktown, Ind… Major: Fashion marketing innovation.
Emma Jönsson (Rydebäck, Sweden/Filbornaskolan)

EMU: 2026-27: Will join the program as an incoming freshman.
HIGH SCHOOL: Attends Filbornaskolan in Sweden… Competing in breaststroke events.
PERSONAL: Full name: Emma Jenny Levina Jönsson… Daughter of Anders and Kristina Jöhnsson… Has a sister, Felicia… A native of Rydebäck, Skåne, Sweden… Major: Criminology.
Silvana Pomar Farias (Zapopan, Mexico/Universidad del Valle de Atemajac UNIVA)
Event: Diving
EMU: 2026-27: Will join the program as an incoming freshman.
HIGH SCHOOL: Attends Universidad del Valle de Atemajac UNIVA… Has been a part of her school earning Mexico's top 10 national honor… Has competed for diving team CODE Jalisco for seven years… As a part of the club, Jalisco was crowned champion of diving in Mexico and has won the national championship in Mexico 24 consecutive times.
PERSONAL: Full name: Silvana Pomar Farias… Daughter of Salvador Antonio Pomar Castañeda and Leticia de Carmen Farias Cordova… Has a brother, Salvador Pomar Farias… A native of Zapopan, Jalisco, Mexico… Major: Exercise science, orthotics and prosthetics.
"I'm thrilled to have Silvana join our program," said Gimm. "Her diving background and experience will be a great addition to our program and she brings a wealth of enthusiasm and energy to the EMU Swimming and Diving team. We can't wait for her to arrive on campus as an Eagle," Gimm added.
