Junior was the only player in the league to average a double-double
CLEVELAND, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) -- The Mid-American Conference announced its annual awards for women's basketball, March 11, with Eastern Michigan University junior Sisi Eleko earning placement on the All-MAC Second Team. The only player in the league to average a double-double this season, Eleko finished her campaign averaging 17.9 points and 10.1 rebounds per game.
Eleko (Montreal, Quebec/New Hope Academy/Canisius) ranked among the top players in the MAC statistically throughout the season. Her 17.9 points ranked second while her 500 points stood third. On the glass, her 10.1 average ranked first and made her the only player to average in double figures. Additionally, she ranked second in total rebounds at 284, second in defensive rebounds with 205, and fourth in offensive rebounds with 79 while averaging 34.0 minutes played, the seventh-most in the MAC.
On the national level, Eleko finished the regular season ranked 21st in the NCAA in defensive rebounds per game (7.3), 23rd in rebounds per game (10.1), 26th in double-doubles (14), and 45th in total rebounds (283). With those numbers, she ranks 23rd in rebounds per game (8.81) for a career among active players in the NCAA while ranking 29th in double-doubles with 34. She also is one of only 167 players to have scored 1,000 points and pulled down 600 rebounds in a career that is currently playing.
Eleko finished her first season in Ypsilanti with 500 points and 283 rebounds, both of which held historical significance. Her 500 points made her just the 13th player in program history to score 500+ points in a season while making her the fifth to do so in her junior campaign. Additionally, the 283 rebounds ranked third on the program's single-season list with only Felicia Hines (1984-85) and Suzanne Huff (1980-81) posting more with 292 and 286, respectively. Her season averages of 17.9 points and 10.1 rebounds made her just the third player to average a double-double in a season for the Eagles. The first was Hines, who averaged 12.0 points and 11.7 rebounds per game in the 1984-85 season, with the most recent addition to the ledger coming in 2020-21 when Ce'Nara Skanes averaged 16.0 points and 10.9 rebounds.
Ranked ninth on the program's all-time double-doubles list (since 1999-00) with 14, Eleko is only the seventh different EMU player to average 17.9 points or better in a season and the first to do so since the 2015-16 season when Cha Sweeny averaged 18.3 points per game. She also is just the second player in EMU history to score over 400 points and record over 200 rebounds in a season, joining Natachia Watkins (2011-12) on the list after she finished her season with 405 points and 218 rebounds.
In her career, Eleko is no stranger to postseason accolades. As a member of the Canisius program the previous two seasons under EMU Head Coach Sahar Nusseibeh, she was named to the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) All-Rookie Team as a freshman in 2022-23 before earning All-MAAC First Team in 2023-24.
Historically, Eleko is the 38th different EMU player to earn All-MAC accolades as her honor is the 61st captured in program history. She also is the 15th different Eagle to be selected to the second team while capturing the 20th honor in program history and the first since Areanna Combs earned a second-team nod following the 2021-22 season.
The Eagles' season came to an end Saturday, March 8. Fans are encouraged to check back on EMUEagles.com and the team's social media platforms for off-season updates as they become available.
