Eagles have won three consecutive games for the first time in program history.

Highlights

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) --
For the first time in program history, the Eastern Michigan University lacrosse team has won three consecutive games as the Eagles downed visiting Canisius University, 12-10, Saturday morning, March 1, inside the EMU Indoor Practice Facility in Ypsilanti. The Eagles (3-2) received goals from seven different players, including the first career hat trick for Emerson Henry, to defeat the Golden Griffins (1-4).

How It Happened
The visitors opened the scoring less than one minute into the contest before Roya Khaleeli (Rancho Palo Verdes, Calif./Palos Verdes Peninsula) picked up her first goal of the year to knot things at 1-1. Following another CU goal, Tracy Grollman (Annapolis, Md./Annapolis Area Christian School) netted her first of the day before Henry (Ashburn, Ontario/Donald A. Wilson), on a pass from Mackenzie Blackwell (North Beach, Md./Northern), game EMU its first lead of the day, 3-2. After CU tied the game, Henry scored her second of the day before another Golden Griffins goal squared the score at 4-4 at the end of the first.

In the second, the defense stood tall by limiting the visitors to just two shots, both of which were saved by Maddie Porter (Montrose, N.Y./Hendrick Hudson). With no goals allowed, the Eagles went on a 3-0 run in the stanza to take a 7-4 lead at halftime. Grollman got the scoring going with her second before Henry secured her hat trick as the duo was assisted by the Alderman Sisters, Abby Alderman (Lusby, Md./Patuxent) and Amber Alderman (Lusby, Md./Patuxent), respectively. The final goal of the half came on a free-position score from Kyleigh Dill (Dover, Del./Dover).

Following the intermission, the Golden Griffins turned the tables and ran off four consecutive goals to take an 8-7 lead with 5:29 remaining in the third. The Eagles responded with Katheryn Wilson (Dacula, Ga./Mill Creek) scoring on player advantage before Blackwell, on and assists from Caitlin Beahm (Toms River, N.J./Toms River North), scored her first to build a 9-8 lead. After CU tied it at 9-9, Blackwell responded with her second, this time off a feed from Henry, to give EMU a 10-9 lead after three.

In the final quarter, Beahm was awarded a free-position shot and took advantage as she scored with 8:51 to play and pushed the EMU advantage to 11-9. The visitors pulled on back just over one minute later with the two teams battling for possessions and shots the rest of the way. With less than 90 seconds to play, the Eagles regained possession and were able to spread the field before Khaleeli got free, ran in on cage, and slotted home another goal with 25 seconds to play, securing the win.

Game Notes - INDIVIDUAL
» Emerson Henry posted her first career hat trick as she netted three goals in the win while adding one assist for a team-high four points. Henry has now scored five goals in her last two games after scoring just once in the first three. She added one ground ball, one caused turnover, and a team-high five draw controls in the game.
» Mackenzie Blackwell netted two more goals to bring her season total to a team-leading 18. Despite scoring multiple goals for the fifth consecutive game this season, the two-goal showing marked the first time this year Blackwell had not scored three or more. She added one assist for three points along with three ground balls, three draw controls, and one caused turnover.
» Tracy Grollman scored twice to tie her season high as her first tied the game at 2-2 and her second gave EMU a 5-4 lead that sparked a three-goal run for the Eagles.
» Roya Khaleeli netted two goals, her first of the year, and her first career multiple-goal game. Khaleeli twice scored single goals last year in her freshman season. Her second goal came with 25 seconds remaining and EMU clinging to a one-goal lead, all but closing the door on the win.
» Caitlin Beahm made it three consecutive games with at least one goal as her single score was big for the Eagles as it stood as the game-winner. She now has two game-winning goals in her career and, along with Mackenzie Blackwell's four, is just the second Eagle to record multiple game-winning goals for EMU.
» Eight different players recorded at least one caused turnover in the game with Annika Wozney (Elk River, Minn./Elk River) leading the way with four, which tied for the third-highest total in a single game in program history, trailing only two games with five by Sydney Lawrence. Wozney also added three ground balls in the contest.
» Maddie Porter led the team with four ground balls while adding one caused turnover and nine saves in goal. The sophomore came up big in the second half as she recorded three saves in both the third and fourth quarters.

Game Notes - TEAM
» With the win, Eastern has won three consecutive games for the first time in program history. The Eagles had won two consecutive games twice last year before dropping their next contest.
» Eastern holds a winning percentage above .500 for just the third time in program history. The last time the Eagles had more wins than losses in a season came last year when a 12-9 victory at Detroit Mercy, April 7, 2024, pushed the Eagles to 6-5 overall.
» With the 12 goals scored, the Eagles have tallied 47 goals in their last three contests, tying for the most in a three-game stretch in program history. The team also scored 47 goals in three consecutive road games last, including 13 at Duquesne (Feb. 15), 16 at Howard (Feb. 25), and 18 at Delaware State (Feb. 28).
» The 12 goals scored tied for the 10th-highest total in a single-game in program history while the 12 caused turnovers tied for the sixth-highest total.

Two road games await the Eagles next week as they will travel to Indianapolis, Ind., for a 3 p.m. contest at Butler University, March 7, before playing in a noon game in Cincinnati, Ohio, against the University of Cincinnati, March 9.
