The Eagles earned three all-conference nods as the men currently stand third and the women tie for sixth

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University track and field programs finished the first of two days at the Mid-American Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships at its home venue of Bowen Field House, Friday, Feb. 28.
The Eagles earned three All-MAC performances on the day, as the Eastern men stand third after day one with 29 points while the women are tied for sixth with 20 points. In total, Eastern saw 15 finals-qualifying performances.
How it Happened – Men
Formula Thompson (St. Catherine, Jamaica/Jamaica College/Nebraska) and Jake McEachern (Lloydminster, Alberta/Lloydminster Comprehensive) earned All-MAC honors, as Thompson captured his second consecutive individual MAC Championship and first-team nod in the indoor long jump with a leap of 7.44m (24-05), marking the third consecutive indoor season an Eagle has won the event. McEachern slotted second and garnered second-team honors in the weight throw with a toss of 17.99m (59-00.25). The duo led the Eagles in scoring on the day with Thompson collecting 10 points and McEachern earning eight.
Samuel Jeffery (Fonthill, Ontario/E.L. Crossley Secondary) led a productive EMU men's multis team as he currently stands third in the heptathlon with 2,805 points. He finished second in the long jump with the program's fifth-best heptathlon mark at 6.84m (22-05.25), before tying for first with teammate Cason Doolittle (Findlay, Ohio/Liberty Benton) in the high jump, both leaping 1.88m (6-02). Doolittle also put forth a strong effort in the heptathlon long jump, setting a personal best and capturing the 10th best heptathlon long jump in program annals with a 6.16m (20-02.50) jump.
The 400m dash prelims was a bright spot for the sprinters. Gabe Singh (Toledo, Ohio/Sylvania Northview/Oakland) and Bamidele Ajayi (Eikiti State, Nigeria/Metropolitan International College/Lenoir-Rhyne) teamed up to place one (Singh – 48.86) and two (Ajayi – 48.89) in the race, both earning finals appearances while Tajay Roberts (Sunrise, Fla./Dillard) also qualified for the finals, placing eighth in 49.90.
Ajayi went on to qualify in the 200m dash via his sixth-place finish in the prelims in 21.99, an event where Olawole Olanrewaju (Akoko North-West, Nigeria/Wallas Universal Secondary School/Lenoir-Rhyne) punched his ticket to the final heat as well, placing eighth in 22.37.
All three Eagles in the 60m hurdles prelims qualified for the finals, led by Michael Hawkins (Detroit, Mich./Cass Technical/Michigan State), who finished second in a personal-best 8.18. He was followed by Leo Ignacio (Saline, Mich./Saline) in fifth (8.28) and Mill Coleman III (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Catholic Central) in seventh (8.35).
The Eastern men completed the day with a second-place outing in the distance medley relay, as the team of Ty Dailey (Phoenix, Md./Dulaney), Josh Flake (Redford, Mich./Oak Park), Jimmy Geller (London, England/Davenant Foundation School), and Carson McCoy (Pittsburgh, Pa./Deer Lakes) ran the distance in 10:07.46, capturing eight points for the Green & White.
How it Happened – Women
The women's performances were highlighted by a second-place showing in the 5000m from Marta Moreno (Wassenaar, Netherlands/American School of The Hague), finishing in 16:37.91 for an All-MAC Second Team honor, and a third-place outing in the pentathlon from Shay Clemetson (Naples, Fla./Barron Collier) who scored a personal-best 3,706 points, the fifth-best mark in program history. Clemetson posted the Eagles' best pentathlon 60m hurdles in program history, placing second in a personal-best 8.59. She grabbed three more program top 10 pentathlon marks on the day, most notably in the long jump, where she recorded the program's third-best pentathlon mark, jumping 5.70m (18-08.50).
Also competing in the standard long jump, Clemetson placed sixth with a 5.77m (18-11.25) mark, scoring three points to go with the six she scored in the pentathlon. Her nine points in total leads the EMU women after day one as she is followed by Moreno, who secured eight points on the day.
Saraiah Walkes (Manatee County, Fla./The-Out-of-Door-Academy) had two outstanding performances in the preliminary rounds of the 60m dash and 200m dash. She won the 200m in 23.81 after placing second in the 60m in a personal-best 7.37, punching her tickets to Saturday's final in both events. Additionally, Walkes' 7.37 in the 60m dash stands as the sixth best in program history.
Sticking with sprinting events, Josephine Oloye (Iwaro-Oka, Nigeria/Geomi Secondary School/Tayelolu Memorial) earned a finals appearance in the 400m dash by way of her fourth-place finish in the prelims, crossing the finish line in 55.53.
Chloie Musta (Mesick, Mich./Cadillac) earned a win in the 800m prelims, cruising to first in 2:09.88, while freshman Faith Moore (Farmington Hills, Mich./Farmington Hills) turned in a notable performance in the weight throw, setting a personal best and improving her program top 10 standing as she tossed the women's program's sixth-best mark at 16.99m (55-09).
The ladies finished the day with a sixth-place showing in the distance medley relay. Cora Henderson (Courtice, Ontario/Courtice Secondary), Mia Biehl (East Lansing, Mich./East Lansing), Sophie Emin (Easton, Pa./Easton Area/Rutgers), and Anita Zaro (Timisoara, Romania/Faculty of Physical Education and Sport) finished in 11:57.04, earning three points.
