DETROIT, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University men's basketball team topped Tuskegee University, 73-65, in exhibition action late Thursday, Oct. 30, at the Wayne State Fieldhouse.
The game, which was part of the Horatio Williams Foundation's "Hoops and Culture" event, saw Eastern lead by as many as 19 in the first half as redshirt freshman Mo Habhab (Dearborn, Mich./Dearborn/Central Michigan) and redshirt senior Addison Patterson (Mississauga, Ontario/Bella Vista/Oregon/Nevada/Salt Lake CC/Tallahassee State/Northwestern State) each tallied 14 points to lead the Eagles. Habhab added five rebounds, two assists, two steals, and two blocks in an all-around effort.
How It Happened
Eastern burst out of the gates, building an early 11-2 advantage before expanding it to its largest lead of the contest at 26-7 with 9:34 left in the first half.
The Eagles led, 41-26, at the half as the Golden Tigers scored 14 of their 26 first-half points in the final 6:17 of the half.
After the intermission, Tuskegee scored the half's first nine points prior to a three-pointer from junior Aidan Rubio (Flint, Mich./Goodrich/Macomb CC/Central Michigan/UNC-Asheville) halting the run.
A lay-up from Habhab pushed EMU's lead back out to 10 at 50-40 with 13 minutes left but TU used an 8-0 spurt to come within two before tying the game at 52-52 with 8:53 to go.
Junior Braelon Green (Southfield, Mich./Southfield/Arizona State/Bowling Green) scored Eastern's next five points as EMU could not pull away as TU tied the game for the third time at the 4:03 mark.
Helped by five points from redshirt senior Carlos Hart (Miami, Fla./North Miami/Benedict College/South Georgia State/New Orleans/Valdosta State), the Eagles netted the next seven points, leading 68-61 with 1:27 remaining.
Tuskegee fought back to within four but a quartet of EMU free throws in the final 42 seconds put the game away.

» Eastern was 20-of-50 (40.0%) from the field and 6-of-21 (28.6%) from the three-point line while Tuskegee was 23-of-53 (43.4%) from the floor and 4-of-14 (28.6) from three-point range.
» Both teams secured 33 rebounds.
» EMU's bench outscored TU's, 29-19.
» Eastern was an impressive 27-of-31 (87.1%) from the free throw line. EMU's 27 makes would have been its second-highest mark in the 2024-25 season. The Eagles' 87.1% conversion rate would be its best when shooting at least 30 free throws since EMU made 30-of-34 free throws against Ball State, Jan. 23, 2016.
