Soccer Edged by MAC-Leading Western Michigan After 83rd-Minute Goal

10/16/2025 6:06:00 PM | Soccer

Eagles’ valiant effort fell short as Holland made 12 saves

KALAMAZOO, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – Despite 12 saves from redshirt junior Ella Holland and impressive defensive showing, the Eastern Michigan University soccer team was edged, 1-0, by Mid-American Conference-leading Western Michigan University Thursday, Oct. 16, at the WMU Soccer Complex, as the Broncos netted an 83rd-minute goal.

Holland's (Dunwoody, Ga./Dunwoody/Samford) 12 saves are the second-highest mark in her career as EMU, which sits ninth in the MAC, will look to make a final push for the six-team MAC Tournament with three matches remaining.

Eastern, which was the last MAC team to win in Kalamazoo, was unable to snap Western's 24-match home unbeaten streak.

How It Happened
Eastern fended off early pressure as junior Cameryn Susey (Westerville, Ohio/Olentangy Berlin) saved a Bronco shot off the goal line in the sixth minute.

Action slowed in the ensuing minutes as neither team generated a shot until the 29th minute, with the teams heading to the intermission knotted at 0-0.

Holland and the Eagles continued to battle a relentless WMU attack in the second half, which featured 11 shots and eight corner kicks in the final 45 minutes.

Western finally broke through in the 83rd minute with a shot from 12 yards out as Eastern was unable to generate a shot in the final seven minutes of the contest.
