YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) –
The Eastern Michigan University soccer team won, 3-0, against the University of Akron, Sunday, Oct. 19 at Scicluna Field behind junior Olivia Sipsock's goals in the 25th and 52nd minutes.

Sipsock (Medina, Ohio/Medina) scored her fifth and sixth goals of the season while freshman Kaylee Synk (North Olmstead, Ohio/St. Joseph's Academy) dashed any chances of an Akron comeback with a goal in the 84th minute.

Redshirt junior Ella Holland (Dunwoody, Ga./Dunwoody/Samford) stood stout in net once again, making eight saves en route to her fifth clean sheet of the season.

Eastern sits in seventh place in the MAC, one spot short of qualifying for the MAC Tournament with two matches left to play.

How It Happened
Eastern's first chance of the day came in the 25th minute as Sipsock sent a well-placed left-footed kick sailed high toward the top of the far post, going over the Zips goalkeeper's glove to give the Eagles the lead at the 24:18 mark that they took into the intermission.

Sipsock once again was looked to in order to get the offense driving, and slipped past two Zips defenders for another left-footed strike. This time the ball never left the turf, and was placed out of the goalkeeper's reach to give Eastern a 2-0 lead after 52 minutes of play.

Holland and the Eagles staved off a desperate Akron attack in a rain-filled second half, stopping three shots in 90 seconds in the 78th and 79th minutes of play.

In 84th minute, sophomore Ciara Brown (Wyandanch, N.Y./Half Hollow Hills West/Auburn) raced up the near left side of the pitch, crossing the ball to Sipsock center-net in the box. Sipsock sent a soft pass to Synk in the bottom-right corner, who made a diving right-footed kick to tip the ball in.
