Twenty Eastern Gymnasts Earn Scholastic All-America Honors

Eastern ranked 14th nationally in team GPA
MARLBORO, N.J. (EMUEagles.com) - The Eastern Michigan University gymnastics program had 20 student-athletes earn Scholastic All-American status for the 2023-24 season as named by the Women's Collegiate Gymnastics Association (WCGA), the organization announced Wednesday, Aug. 14.
As a team, Eastern ranked 14th in the country out of the 84 participating institutions with a collective grade-point-average (GPA) of 3.7335. Eastern was ranked ninth in the nation for the percentage of the team to receive the award at 86.96%, the top mark in the Mid-American Conference.
"We are very proud of our team for the amount of energy and effort that they put into their academics," Head Coach Katie Minasola said. "Our program has high standards and they live up to that in the classroom."
Overall, 63 programs averaged a 3.5 or higher GPA, with 1,174 individuals earning that mark, which is the most ever recorded (since 2008 when statistics were monitored). An impressive 296 student-athletes posted a 4.0 GPA, another new record since 2008. The average GPA across all reported student-athletes was 3.6103, which is the second highest recorded.
"With another year in the books, our student-athletes continue to raise the bar in the classroom in addition to on the competition floor, and I am always amazed at their ability to manage everything on their plate," Casey Jo MacPherson, WCGA Board Chair. "Their impressive academic achievements are a testament to their hard work, dedication, and steadfast commitment to succeeding in all aspects of their lives."
