DiTullio comes to Ypsilanti with four years of coaching experience, including a stop with the Minnesota Twins FCL team
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – Eastern Michigan University baseball Head Coach Robbie Britt tabbed Andrew DiTullio as an assistant coach, Britt announced Wednesday, Aug. 14.
DiTullio comes to Ypsilanti with four years of coaching experience throughout a variety of levels of the sport. He most recently served as the hitting coach at Division II Southern New Hampshire University.
"We're excited to welcome Andrew to our program," said Britt. "He brings a wealth of experience developing student-athletes at a multitude of levels. We're excited for our student-athletes to work with someone who has a high care level for people, and is committed to developing leaders both on and off the field."
In one season at SNHU, DiTullio took the reins of an offense that returned just three starters from the 2023 campaign. He excelled under the circumstances as he coached four all-conference selections and four all-region honorees, with one earning Division II NCAA All-American designation. DiTullio's offense played a large part in the Penmen winning the NCAA Division II East Regional, advancing them to the Division II College World Series.
DiTullio's offense produced from the plate as his Penmen produced a .299 batting average, .452 slugging percentage, .412 on-base percentage, and .864 OPS. He also coached discipline and precision at the dish and on the base paths, as his squad nearly had a one-to-one walk-to-strikeout ratio while swiping 135 bases. Furthermore, his lineup featured two players that excelled in power hitting, as Jorge Burgos broke the single season home run record (19) while Nater Wachter claimed the freshman homer record (9).
DiTullio brings major league organization experience to Ypsilanti, as he served as a rehab hitting coach for the Minnesota Twins Florida Complex League (FCL) team from 2021-23. His time with the Twins was highlighted by coordinating and implementing individualized practice designs for all FCL hitters. By doing so, this lowered the FCL team's overall strikeout percentage and chase percentage by over 20-percent from the 2021 seasons.
The University of Central Florida grad has experiences working with big leaguers as he aided MLB players such as Royce Lewis, Alex Kirilloff, and Jorge Polanco in his Twins tenure. Additionally, he earned a 100-percent success rate on player plan goals for FCL players that were directly assigned to him.
Prior to the Twins, DiTullio worked as an assistant coach at Florida Atlantic University from October-December of 2021. With the Owls, he assisted with all hitting instruction and practice design while also supervising baserunning and outfield defense. He also assisted the Director of Ops with all day-to-day operations of the baseball program, along with coordinating all fall and winter youth and prospect camps, including handling the budgeting and marketing.
The Fort Pierce, Fla., native landed his first collegiate job in July of 2020, when he became an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator for the Fighting Owls of Hartford Community College. Tasked with coaching the offense in Bel Air, DiTullio succeeded as his squad churned out a .300/.438/.571 line in the 2021 campaign with 69 homers in just 39 games. The 2022 team bettered that, as they produced a .344/.491/.651 line, homering 97 times in 57 games en route to making the Junior College World Series. His personalized development program paid-off as the Fighting Owls increased their average exit velocity by eight miles-per-hour.
He also executed on the recruiting trail, as he cultivated a nationwide recruiting strategy based on video and measurable data. DiTullio recruited the 2022 class that featured multiple Division I signees, one of which signed after his freshman season with HCC.
Additionally, DiTullio has experience coaching pitching as he was a hitting and pitching instructor for Absolute Sports Performance from June of 2020 till September of 2021. With ASP, he utilized Hittrax, Rapsodo, K-vest, and slow-motion video in a one-on-one setting with baseball and softball players of all ages and created practice plans and led both the Hitting Academy, High School Hitting Club, and College Development Program.
DiTullio graduated from UCF with a bachelor's degree of Integrated Studies in 2020 and also served his community as a firefighter, earning his Firefighter Certification from Indian River State College in 2020.
