Decorated midfielder comes to Ypsilanti after two years with Stony Brook

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) -- The Eastern Michigan University lacrosse program has added transfer midfielder Payton Bloedow (Prior Lake, Minn./Prior Lake/Stony Brook) to the roster with the former Stony Brook University student-athlete set to join the Eagles this fall, Head Coach Sara Tisdale announced Tuesday, June 11. Bloedow (pronounced BLAY-dough) comes to Ypsilanti after graduating from SBU in two years.

"Payton has been exposed to lacrosse at the highest level with Stony Brook competing against top 20 programs regularly producing NCAA Tournament wins in both of her years there," Tisdale said. "The experience Payton is bringing to EMU from Stony Brook will be of great value as we look to bring home a MAC Championship and compete well into May in 2025."

Bloedow recently graduated Magna Cum Laude from SBU in two years and was part of a highly successful Seawolves program that advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament both years. As a midfielder, Bloedow saw action in 11 games and tallied one goal, one ground ball, and two draw controls.

"Payton's values directly align with EMU Lacrosse's values," Tisdale continued. "She is service and community oriented with a passion for being a committed teammate and strong student. Adding Payton and her family to our program will have an immediate positive impact and we're thrilled to welcome them to Ypsilanti!"

A 2021 graduate of Prior Lake High School in Prior Lake, Minn., Bloedow was a two-time captain for the Lakers and was named Minnesota Ms. Lacrosse following the 2021 season. A two-time All-American and one-time Academic All-American, the two-time all-state selection was named one of the five top players to watch in the Midwest by USA Lacrosse Magazine in both 2020 and 2021. A three-sport standout, including hockey and soccer, she capped her senior season with her second state title (2019 and 2021) and ended her career as the all-time goal scorer in PLHS history at 209 following her 78 goals scored in 2021. On the club level, she competed for Team 36 from 2018-22, a team that is co-owned by her sister-in-law and directed by her brother.

Bloedow is one of 11 newcomers set to join the Eagles this fall as she will join a group of 10 freshmen that hail from four different states, including Michigan, Georgia, Maryland, and Pennsylvania, and two Canadian provinces, including Ontario and British Columbia. The freshmen group includes Stella Burke (Peterborough, Ontario/St. Peter's Catholic Secondary School), Marley Helton (Laurel, Md./St. Vincent Pallotti), Emerson Henry (Ashburn, Ontario/Donald A. Wilson), Sydney Howard (Cumming, Ga./North Forsyth), Erin Humphrey (Auburn Hills, Mich./Troy), Ainsley McLain (Sinking Spring, Pa./Wilson West Lawn), Elanya Narloch (Oxford, Mich./Lake Orion), Alex Paterson (Pitt Meadows, B.C./Pitt Meadows Secondary School), Reagan Riemer (Perry Hall, Md./Notre Dame Preparatory School), and Katheryn Wilson (Dacula, Ga./Mill Creek).

The Eagles (7-9, 4-2 MAC) are coming off an outstanding 2024 campaign that saw an increase of five victories over their inaugural 2023 campaign and a trip to the postseason for the first time as they fell in the semifinals of the 2024 Mid-American Conference Tournament. Eastern was led by two standout defenders in 2024 MAC Defensive Player of the Year Sydney Lawrence and 2024 MAC Freshman of the Year Maddie Porter (Montrose, N.Y./Hendrick Hudson HS) and the offensive prowess of All-MAC First Team honoree Mackenzie Blackwell (North Beach, Md./Northern). With a team returning 15 juniors and eight sophomores that accounted for more than 75 percent of the team's offensive production, over 85 percent of its ground balls, caused turnovers, and draw controls, and all its play in goal, the Eagles will look continue its pattern of growth in 2025.
