YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University track and field programs will pursue respective Mid-American Conference (MAC) outdoor championships as the Eagles are set to begin post season competition at the 2024 MAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships, hosted by Northern Illinois University at the NIU Soccer and Track & Field Complex Thursday-Saturday, May 9-11, in DeKalb, Ill.

Meet Information/How to Follow
The meet will start at 10 a.m. CT Thursday, 11 a.m. CT Friday, and 12:30 p.m. CT Saturday. Fans can follow along with the action using the live results and championship central links on the EMU track and field schedule pages, and stay tuned to EMUEagles.com for a daily recap that will be posted each day following the completion of all events. Also, stay tuned to the EMU track and field social media accounts for in-meet updates.

EMU will face teams from the University of Akron (M/W), Ball State University (W), Bowling Green State University (W), the University at Buffalo (M/W), Central Michigan University (W), Kent State University (M/W), Miami University (M/W), Northern Illinois University (W), Ohio University (W), the University of Toledo (W), and Western Michigan University (W).

EMU Men at MAC Outdoor Championships
The EMU men aim to secure their 25th MAC outdoor championship and their first since the 2018 campaign. That season, Eastern dominated its competition as they scored 184.50 points, nearly 20 points more than the second-place finisher, Akron (166). At the meet that year, former Eagle Hlynur Andresson was named Most Valuable Performer after capturing individual titles in the 5,000m run, 3,000m steeplechase, and 10,000m run.

Legendary Men's Head Coach John Goodridge was tabbed Coach of the Year for the seventh and final time of his EMU tenure, and the Eagles earned five All-MAC First Team honors, two second team selections, and captured the Men's Track Freshman of the Year award with then-freshman Tyler Johnson securing the accolade.
  
EMU Women at MAC Outdoor Championships
The Eastern women are seeking their 13th MAC Outdoor Championship and their first sweep of both the indoor and outdoor championships since the 2016 season.

That year at the outdoor championships, they secured the win with 152 points on their way to landing seven student-athletes on the All-MAC First Team, two on the second team, while Director of Track and Field/Cross Country Sue Parks was named Coach of the Year and then-freshman  Jessica Harris was named Track Freshman of the Year.

Last Time at MAC Outdoor Championships
The women's team placed second with 105 points just behind Ball State's 108 points while the men's team was third with 144.50 points behind host Akron (168.50) and Kent State (161), respectively.
Former Eagle Angel Gazaway had an outstanding weekend as she won the 100 meter hurdles with a PR of 13.38, the second best time in school history and also set a PR to win the 400 hurdles in 59.16, the fifth best mark in the program.

She also teamed with Mair Edwards, Chevonne Wheeler and Noriyah Johnson (Chania, Greece/Second General/Albilene Christian) to win the 4x400 relay in 3:40.87 while Johnson won the 400 meters with a personal best time of 53.85, the 10th best result in school history.

Miranda Cadwell (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield South) was second in the hammer (57.07 meters) for EMU's only second place finish and she took the bronze in the discus (46.31 meters) by posting a personal best and what at the time was an Eastern Michigan school record.

Four men's athletes took home championships as Payne Wylie won the 110 hurdles (14.09), Marcus Kemp (Kitchener, Ontario/St. Mary's Kitchener/Providence) won the 800 meters with a personal best time of 1:51.20, Baldvin Magnusson won the 1,500 meters (3:46.24), and Brendan Hill (Huber Heights, Ohio/Wayne) tied his PR to win the high jump (2.06 meters).

Additionally, the Eagles had five second place finishes as Magnusson placed second in the 10,000 meters (30:03.54), and Linus Vennemann (Osnabruck, Lower Saxony, Germany/Gymnasium "In der Wuste") was second in the 3,000 meter steeplechase with a personal best time of 9:06.54.

Kaleb Simpson was second in the 200 meters with a PR of 20.80 which is the seventh best mark in program history, Toby Gualter took second in the 5,000 meters (14:11.27), and Dante Lander set a PR to place second in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 51.41, the seventh best mark in school history, bettering his time from the preliminaries.

Formula Thompson (St. Catherine, Jamaica/Jamaica College/Nebraska) took the bronze in the long jump (7.50 meters), Eddie Zuercher was third in the 3,000 steeplechase (9:09.43), Ronnie Brandal (Huron, Ohio/Huron) took third in the 800 meters (1:51.49), Magnusson was third in the 5,000 meters (14:13.76) and Richie Sadler took the bronze in the triple jump (15.19 meters) as the Eagles had five third place finishes on the men's side.
