GROVE CITY, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University women's golf team wrapped up play at the 2024 Mid-American Conference Championships, hosted by Ohio University at Pinnacle Golf Club Tuesday, April 23. Playing in blustery conditions, the Eagles finished in 10th place, scoring a final round 331 to finish with a cumulative score of 972 (322-319-331).
Kent State captured its 25th consecutive league title, finishing with a 909 (296-312-301). Toledo was the runner up with a 920, followed by Northern Illinois (937), and Ball State (939). Central Michigan (947), Ohio (951), Akron (954), Bowling Green (960), Western Michigan (963), and EMU rounded out the MAC standings.
Leon Takagi and Hester Sicking shared the individual honors for Kent State, totaling a six-over par 222.
How It Happened
Eastern Michigan was led by Sophia Wygonik (Westland, Mich./Livonia Franklin), who finished tied for 21st with a 240 (74-81-85) over the course of the three-day event. Wygonik's 74 on Sunday was a career best as well as being tied for the fifth-best score posted by a MAC student-athlete all weekend.
Eastern Michigan also saw quality scores throughout the weekend by senior Anna Watson (Ashland, Ohio-Ashland) posting a 240 (82-78-82) in a tie for 30th, while freshman Riley Kim (Aldie, Va./Lightridge) took 34th after posting a 243 (79-81-83).
Historical Notes
The Eagles finished the year with the 15th-lowest four-player team scoring average in program history at 311.4. Eastern Michigan had two top-five finishes this season, including a fourth-place showing most recently at the Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate, March 17-19.
