Graduate student tied the national lead with 13 points at Youngstown State Sunday
CLEVELAND, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) – For the second time this month, Sydney Lawrence, a graduate student on the Eastern Michigan University lacrosse team, has earned a weekly accolade from the Mid-American Conference as she has been named the MAC Offensive Player of the Week, the conference announced today, April 23. Lawrence, who earned the defensive honor April 2, tallied 14 points on nine goals and five assists in two games last week while adding five caused turnovers.
Lawrence (Plano, Texas/Plano East/Oregon) was huge for the Eagles as she tallied 13 points on eight goals and five assists against Youngstown State University Sunday, April 21, in Youngstown, Ohio. The 13 points ranks as the most in a single game in all of NCAA Division I this season and are the most in school history, surpassing the nine points Mackenzie Blackwell (North Beach, Md./Northern) tallied on nine goals against Delaware State University, Feb. 28. Lawrence's five helpers also broke the school record for assists in a game and while her eight goals rank second in goals in a game.
Additionally, against the Penguins, she scored a school-record three woman-up goals while recording her second double hat trick at Eastern with 3+ goals and 3+ assists in the same game. Lawrence also tallied one goal against Xavier University in mid-week action while recording a school-record five caused turnovers.
For the season, Lawrence is one of five players throughout the MAC with multiple weekly honors earned and the only one to earn one offensive and one defensive award. Lawrence's honor this week marks the sixth total accolade earned by an Eagle. The three offensive honors went to Tracy Grollman (Annapolis, Md./Annapolis Area Christian School) on Feb. 27, Blackwell on March 26, and Lawrence this week while the defensive accolades were earned by Giuliana Ditsky (Wyomissing, Pa./Berks Catholic) on Feb. 27, Lawrence on April 3, and Maddie Porter (Montrose, N.Y./Hendrick Hudson) on April 9.
