Lawrence Grabs Weekly MAC Defensive Honor

Graduate student stuffed the stat sheet against Kent State, including four caused turnovers
CLEVELAND, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) – Eastern Michigan University lacrosse graduate student Sydney Lawrence has been named the Mid-American Conference Defensive Player of the Week, the league announced today, April 2. Lawrence was instrumental in the Eagles (5-4, 2-0 MAC) winning at home, 12-11, over visiting Kent State University, March 31, and help Eastern to the top of the conference standings.
Lawrence (Plano, Texas/Plano East/Oregon) was all over the field for Eastern as she finished the game with four caused turnovers, four ground balls, and three draw controls with her CT total tying her own school record. She also was tasked with marking the second-leading scorer on the KSU roster and limited her to just two goals in the game. Additionally, Lawrence scored three goals, including one free-position attempt, to record her second hat trick of the season.
For the season, Lawrence is one of four Eagles that have been recognized by the league and joins Giuliana Ditsky (Wyomissing, Pa./Berks Catholic) as defensive honorees after Ditsky was selected, Feb. 27. On the offensive side, Mackenzie Blackwell (North Beach, Md./Northern) earned the accolade last week (March 26) with Tracy Grollman (Annapolis, Md./Annapolis Area Christian School) earning the same honor, Feb. 27.
Lawrence's award this week is the second of her career after she was named the offensive player of the week March 28, 2023. She joins Blackwell as the only two-time honorees in program history as both were honored the same week last year with Blackwell being named the defensive honoree.

The Eagles are set for two games this week, starting tomorrow, April 3, when the No. 5 Wolverines of the University of Michigan come to town for a 12 p.m. opening draw inside EMU's Indoor Practice Facility. Eastern will then travel into Detroit Sunday, April 7, when the Eagles and University of Detroit Mercy Titans square off at Titan Field for a 1 p.m. MAC contest.
