YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) -- Kelsea Dague scored a career-high-tying four goals, but it was not enough for the Eastern Michigan University lacrosse team as the Eagles dropped a 16-7 home decision to visiting Central Michigan University Sunday, April 14, at Scicluna Field in Ypsilanti. The Eagles (6-6, 3-1 Mid-American Conference) lost in league play for the first time this season with the Chippewas (4-11, 4-0 MAC) taking sole possession of the MAC standings.
How It Happened
The Eagles scored first with Abby Alderman (Lusby, Md./Patuxent) tallying on a free-position shot just 1:14 into the game, but the lead did not last long as the Chippewas scored less than one minute for the start of a four-goal run that saw the visitors hold a 4-1 lead after the first quarter. Eastern halted the run as Dague (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield) netted her first on an assist from Ally Moore (Annandale, N.J./North Hunterdon Regional), but CMU responded with three more goals for a 7-2 advantage. The Eagles picked up another goal, this time as Dague shoveled a loose ball backwards into the net. But the visitors added another trio to make it 10-3 at the break.
Dague opened the scoring in the third with her third of the game as Mackenzie Blackwell (North Beach, Md./Northern) had the assists. After two more goals from the Chippewas, the Eagles responded with Dague's fourth of the day as Kyleigh Dill (Dover, Del./Dover) assisted on the goal. Trailing, 12-5, the deficit widened as CMU scored twice more before Amber Alderman (Lusby, Md./Patuxent) scored on a free-position shot and Dill scored unassisted to make it 14-7. But, the Chippewas added two more goals in the closing minutes to bring about the final score, 16-7.
