Forecasted inclement weather is forcing the move from Detroit

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The women's lacrosse 'Grow Our Game' event between Eastern Michigan University and the University of Michigan, originally scheduled to be played at Martin Luther King Junior High School in Detroit, Wednesday, April 3, is being moved to Ypsilanti because of forcasted inclement weather set to hit the area, EMU Head Coach Sara Tisdale announced today, April 1. The game between the Eagles (5-4, 2-0 MAC) and No. 2 Wolverines (11-1, 2-1 B1G) will now be played inside EMU's Indoor Practice Facility with the opening draw set for noon.

"It is unfortunate the weather is not going to cooperate this week as both teams were looking forward to competing in Detroit," Tisdale said. "With the low temperatures, the threat of snow and rain, and no locker rooms for our players to use, both teams felt it was best, especially with player safety in mind, to move the game indoors in Ypsilanti. Our plan going in was to show up ready to play as we knew locker rooms would not be available, but we did not expect the weather would be what is in the forecast this week, which forced us to pivot. I want to thank MLKJHS and the Detroit Public Schools Community District for working with us to bring our game to Detroit. We were looking forward to playing in Detroit and showcasing the fastest growing sport in women's collegiate athletics and make no mistake, we remain committed to do so in the future! We will try again in the 2025 season, and we hope that when both teams take the field, the excitement and athleticism of this sport will be worth the wait."

'Grow Our Game' was designed to facilitate increased access to the sport of lacrosse by bringing the game to areas of Michigan that might not otherwise be exposed. The initiative began Sept. 24, in Traverse City with the teams from Eastern, Grand Valley State University, and Northern Michigan University meeting at Traverse City Central High School for Fall Ball. Each team scrimmaged one another before welcoming children to the field to experience the game.
