YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) -- The Eastern Michigan University women's basketball team will close out the 2023-24 regular season with a home meeting against the Falcons of Bowling Green State University Saturday, March 9, inside the George Gervin GameAbove Center. The Mid-American Conference contest will add towards the school's MAC records but will not make a difference in the tournament berths as all eight spots have already been clinched for the MAC Tournament held in Cleveland, Ohio, March 13-16. Eliminated from the tournament is EMU, University of Akron, Central Michigan University, and Miami University.  
 
ON AIR
Saturday's game will be broadcast on ESPN+ with a 1 p.m. tip where Ryan Wooley and Greg Steiner will have the call. Fan can listen to the game as Tom Helmer will have the call live on WEMU Radio (89.1 FM) and the Varsity Network App. Fans can also follow the action via live stats at EMUEagles.com/livestats. Additionally, the team's official Twitter account, @EMUWBB, will provide score updates throughout the contest.
 
SENIOR DAY
Prior to tip, the Eagles will honor five program seniors including graduate student Kennedi Myles, seniors Ashley Hassett and ZaNiya Nelson, as well as graduate assistant Kate Sherwood, and student-manager Alex Lara.
 
INSIDE THE CONTEST
Saturday's match up will mark the 77th meeting between EMU and Bowling Green. The Falcons lead the all-time series, 56-20 after defeating the Eagles earlier in the season, a 69-57 road loss, Jan. 10. Eastern Michigan looks to snap a six-game losing streak to the Falcons.
 
ROUND #2 WITH THE FALCONS
Earlier in the season, EMU saw a 21-point showing from the bench, but fell 69-57 to BGSU Jan. 10, at the Stroh Center. Tayra Eke had a double-double with 15 points and 12 rebounds to lead the Eagles. Lachelle Austin also tacked on nine points off the bench and Kennedi Myles chipped in with six points and five assists. Eke's five blocks led the way for the Eagles.
 
NICE TO MEET YOU, COACHES
Interim Head Coach Ke'Sha Blanton is one of five head coaches in the MAC that are in their first season at the helm of their respective programs. In company with Blanton is Ryan Gensler from Akron, Fred Chmiel from Bowling Green, Kristin Haynie from Central Michigan, and Glenn Box from Miami. Below is each first-year head coach in the MAC listed in order of overall coaching record.

Tayra Eke's 2.00 blocks per game is good for first in the MAC and 29th nationally. Of 248 total players ranked in the category, only four other players are members of the MAC, with Eke holding the highest ranking.

TRACKING TAYRA
After her six rebounds against Toledo, March 6, Tayra Eke sits just six boards away from her career milestone 500. Additionally, with her two blocks early in the first half, the junior surpassed her career milestone 150 total blocks.
 
MYLES IN THE RANKINGS
Kennedi Myles ranks third in the MAC with her 8.9 rebounds per game and in total rebounds with 249. Additionally, the graduate student ranks sixth in the league with her 1.64 steals per game.
 
IN THE LINEUP
Tayra Eke is the lone Eagle to start in all 28 games played, thus far. Last season, Lachelle Austin was the closest to starting in all 30 games played as she went 29-29 in games played and games started. In addition to Eke, just one other Eagle has appeared in all 27 contests this season in Kennedi Myles (28-22).
 
THE BLOCKING-BATTLE
EMU won the blocking battle against the league-leading Rockets, 3-1. It was the 16th time this season the Eagles have out-blocked their opponent. Last season, the team recorded more blocks than its foe in 19 contests.  
 
EKE'S MULTI-BLOCK PERFORMANCE
Tayra Eke recorded multiple blocks in a single game for the 16th time this season after posting three at Toledo, March 6, marking her fourth consecutive game contributing the feat. The junior has just one game left to hit her last season mark of 17 games with the feat.
 
MORE ON EKE'S BLOCKED SHOTS
With her three blocks at Toledo, Tayra Eke marked her sixth game with three or more blocks and the 21st of her career. The last time the junior posted three blocks in a single game was when she did so at Kent State University, Jan. 24.
 
AUSTIN'S THREE-POINT SHOOTING GAME
Lachelle Austin made a single three in the setback to the Rockets, March 6, going 1-of-7 from beyond the yard marking the junior's 17th season game with a single make from three-point land, topping the 14 games she secured the feat in during her rookie season. As a sophomore, Austin connected on a three-pointer in 22 total contests.
 
LACHELLE'S LAUNCHING
With her team-leading 13 points against Toledo, Lachelle Austin secured her eighth season double-digit outing and the 33rd of her career. Additionally, it marked the 24th time the junior has posted 13 points or more in her career and the third consecutive.
 
AUSTIN FROM THE CHARITY STRIPE
Going 2-of-2 from the charity stripe, Lachelle Austin has produced a 1.000 free-throw percentage in consecutive games after going 4-of-4 at Ball State, March 2. It was the junior's sixth game accomplishing the feat this season.
 
NIA'S HELPING HANDS
Nia Boston contributed three assists in a single game for the first time in her career after doing so at Toledo. Prior to the setback, the junior has earned two helpers in two different games with the last time coming against Kent State, Feb. 28.
 
NIA UNDER THE RIM
Nia Boston collected a career-high three rebounds in the road loss to Toledo, March 6. The three boards topped the junior's previous career-high of one, which she set on three different occasions with the last time coming against Kent State, Feb. 28.
 
ON THE HORIZON
Eastern's home contest against the Falcons will mark the last for the Eagles. The Falcons will enter the MAC Tournament with their seed still to be determined.
