Eastern to honor its senior class Saturday, March 9, at 1 p.m.

TOLEDO, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) – Playing short-handed, the Eastern Michigan University women's basketball team could not match the offense of the league-leading Rockets from the University of Toledo Wednesday, March 6, inside Savage Arena. Playing with just eight players, EMU was down just two points after the opening quarter, however, UT shot 56 percent for the contest as they rolled to an 87-41 victory.
With the victory, Toledo clinched at least a share of the Mid-American Conference's regular season title.

Tayra Eke (Madrid, Spain/IES Ortega y Gasset/LIU) led the Eagles (6-22, 2-15) with nine points, six rebounds, and three blocks. Lachelle Austin (Redford, Mich./Wayne Memorial) tacked on 13 points and Kennedi Myles (Cincinnati, Ohio/Walnut Hills/Illinois/Marquette) chipped in as well with four points and nine rebounds.

Led by Myles' three offensive rebounds, Eastern Michigan did a great job crashing the offensive glass, pulling down 10 boards that resulted in three second-chance points.

How It Happened
EMU kept it close in the first quarter but entered the second frame down 15-14.

Toledo kept adding to that lead, building a 26-18 advantage before the Green and White went on a 6-0 run, highlighted by a bucket from Austin, to narrow its deficit to 26-24. Toledo responded and expanded its lead, leaving the Eagles trailing 40-26 heading into halftime.

The Eagles' deficit continued to grow after halftime, and the Eagles faced a 65-33 disadvantage heading to the fourth quarter. EMU knocked down one three-pointer in the quarter to score three of its seven total points.

Eastern Michigan could not pull any closer in the fourth, losing by a final of 87-41. The Eagles took advantage of its opportunities in the post, scoring four of its eight points in the paint.
