Blackwell Named MAC Offensive Player of the Week

Sophomore netted four goals and the game-winner in program’s first MAC road victory
CLEVELAND, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) – The Mid-American Conference announced its weekly awards for lacrosse today, March 26, with Eastern Michigan University sophomore Mackenzie Blackwell being voted the MAC Offensive Player of the Week. Blackwell (North Beach, Md./Northern) played a key role in helping the Eagles secure an 11-10 win at the University of Akron, March 24, to mark the first road win in league play in program history.
Blackwell netted four goals in the game to mark the sixth time in eight contests she earned a hat trick while bringing her career total to 13 games of three-or-more goals. The 2023 MAC Freshman of the Year's fourth goal stood as the game-winning strike, her third this year, to help the Eagles snap a four-game losing streak in MAC road games and move her team to 4-4 overall. For the season, Blackwell has scored 32 goals in eight games - an average of 4.00 goals per game - to lead the MAC and rank 12th nationally. She is also just seven goals shy of tying her single-season program record set last year with 39 goals scored in 16 games. Blackwell also collected nine draw controls against the Zips, raising her average to 5.50 draws won per game, which leads the MAC by 0.75 draws per game. Nationally, she ranks 34th in draw controls.
The award for Blackwell is her first this season and the second overall accolade of her career after she was named the MAC Defensive Player of the Week, March 28, 2023. The offensive honor earned this week is the second of the season for the team and the third overall award this year after Tracy Grollman (Annapolis, Md./Annapolis Area Christian School) and Giuliana Ditsky (Wyomissing, Pa./Berks Catholic) earned the offensive and defensive accolades, respectively, Feb. 27. Additionally, Blackwell's honor is the third offensive award earned all-time by an Eastern player after Sydney Lawrence (Plano, Texas/Plano East/Oregon) earned the honor March 28, 2023.
