Chemotti tied for first on beam with a 9.900

CLEVELAND, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) — Eastern Michigan University gymnast Ella Chemotti (Canton, Mich./Canton) was named to the Mid-American Conference All-Tournament Team, the league announced today, March 24, after a stellar performance at the 2024 MAC Championship hosted by Ball State University, March 23, inside Worthen Arena. The honor is the second for Chemotti as she earned the All-Tournament Team honor in the 2022 season.

Chemotti led the Eagles and tied for first-place on the beam with her 9.900 score, which was her third 9.900 or above score of the season. With the win, the junior earned her first MAC Championship title on the apparatus, however, Chemotti is no stranger to the center stage as she was the Bars MAC Champion in the 2022 season with a 9.900 in the event.

As just the fifth Beam MAC Champion in school history, Chemotti is the first to earn the title on the apparatus since 1998 when former Eagle J.J Cullom took the top spot with a 9.850.

During the regular season, Chemotti continued to hold the top spot in the beam event as she has led the MAC in the category for three consecutive years, earning a personal-best NQS of 9.890 this season.

With her three straight first team honors, the 2022 MAC Freshman of the Year became the first EMU gymnast in program history (regular season All-MAC selections started in 2013) to secure the first team three-peat. The closest EMU gymnast to Chemotti's feat was former Eagle Anna Willette who earned second team in 2013 before receiving the first team recognition in 2014 and again in 2015.

The junior was a big addition to Eastern Michigan on beam for the 2024 season, averaging a 9.773 on the apparatus and scoring a 9.900-or-better three times, including a season-best 9.925, just short of her personal-best 9.950 set in her sophomore season.

Chemotti and two other Eagles await the NCAA selection show Monday, March 25, at 12 p.m. to announce teams and individuals who earned the opportunity to compete at NCAA Regionals, which takes place April 3-7.
