Track and Field to Host MAC Indoor Championships

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University track and field teams are set to host the MAC Indoor Championships, Friday-Saturday, Feb. 23-24. The meet will be held at the Bob Parks Track inside Bowen Field House on EMU's main campus.
Meet Information/How to Follow
The meet will begin at 10 a.m. Friday and Saturday. Fans can follow along with the action via a live stats link that can be accessed here. Heat sheets, along with a final schedule of events will be posted to the EMU track and field schedule pages prior to the start of the meet.
EMU will welcome teams from the University of Akron (M/W), Ball State University (W), Bowling Green State University (W), the University at Buffalo (M/W), Central Michigan University (W), Kent State University (M/W), Miami University (M/W), Northern Illinois University (W), Ohio University (W), the University of Toledo (W), and Western Michigan University (W) to Ypsilanti. » The men's program had two program top-10 marks and six personal-best efforts while the women's team had one program top-10 mark and six personal-best efforts.
» Eight student-athletes claimed individual victories at the meet.
Fleur van der Linden (Drunen, Netherlands/d'Oultremont College) moved into ninth place in the EMU record book with her first-place finish in the pole vault. She cleared 3.85m (12-07.50) to claim the individual title.
The Eagles turned in an outstanding effort in the high jump as Micah Martin (Clinton Township, Mich./L'anse Creuse) won the event after clearing 1.72m (5-07.75). Teammate Natalie Buratczuk's (Saint Charles, Ill./Saint Charles North) personal-best mark earned a third-place effort with a mark of 1.67m (5-05.75).
Miranda Cadwell> (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield South) won the weight throw with a mark of 19.29m (63-03.50).
Nikol Antoniadi (Didmoticho, Greece/Geniko Lykeio Didimotichou) recorded back-to-back personal-best efforts in the 60m hurdles. After establishing a mark of 8.81 in the prelims, she garnered another top time by crossing the line in 8.79 for a second-place finish in the finals.
On the men's side, Ryan Johnson (Springboro, Ohio/Springboro) had an outstanding day, winning the weight throw with a personal-best mark of 21.87m (71-09.00), moving up to fourth in program history. Teammate Jake McEachern's (Lloydminster, Alberta/Lloydminster Comprehensive) personal-best effort of 19.60m (64-03.75) allowed him to take third and stands as the ninth-best toss in Eastern history.
Johnson's mark of 14.67m (48-01.75) was good enough for second place in the shot put while Samuel Jeffery (Fonthill, Ontario/E.L. Crossley Secondary) took fourth after a personal-best effort of 11.66m (38-03.25).
Eric Haddock Jr. (Raleigh, N.C./Southeast Raleigh/Appalachian State) won the long jump with a leap of 6.64m (21-09.50). Ousman Kamara (Coatesville, Pa./Coatesville) claimed the high jump title with a personal-best effort of 2.08m (6-09.75).
Yvan Lopes Ribeiro (Nice, France/Lycee Honore d'Estiennes d'Orves/American International) won the 60m hurdles after clocking in at 8.15. Teammate Kyle Martin (Ypsilanti, Mich./Ann Arbor Huron) won the 400m with a time of 48.94.
Gabe Singh (Toledo, Ohio/Sylvania Northview/Oakland) and Shelton Bass (Warner Robbins, Ga./Houston County) finished third and fourth, respectively, in the 200m. Singh crossed the line in 22.26 while Bass finished in 22.36.
Last Time at MAC Indoor Championships
Both the men's and women's programs claimed the MAC indoor title last season, marking the fourth sweep between the programs in EMU history. The Eagles also swept the indoor title in 1997, 2000, and 2018 before last season's sweep. The men's squad secured their 17th MAC crown while the women picked up their eighth.
Following the meet, EMU Director of Track & Field/Cross Country Sue Parks earned a pair of awards as she was named the MAC Indoor Men's and Women's Coach of the Year following her teams' sweep. Park's accolades were the eighth and ninth of her career as she previously garnered the women's honor three times with Ball State before earning four with the Eagles. She also was honored with the men's accolade each of the past two years. By receiving both awards, Parks was the first coach to sweep the accolades at the MAC indoor meet since 2017 when Akron's Dennis Mitchell did so. Additionally, with four women's honors, Parks ranks second among any EMU coach with four Indoor MAC Coach of the Year accolades, moving past her legendary father, Bob Parks, who was a three-time men's honoree.
Last Time EMU Hosted MAC Indoors
Eastern last hosted the Indoor MAC Championships in 2017. Both the men's and women's programs placed second, as the women scored 139 points while the men notched 130. Akron captured both the men's and women's titles, with the men scoring 160.5 points while the women posted 145 points.
The Eastern men saw four individual MAC titles in the meet, as former Eagle Willy Fink was named Most Valuable Performer, and then freshman Ivan Suazo was named Freshman Performer of the Year. Additionally, current assistant coach for jumping events, Cameron Hart placed first in the high jump with a leap of 2.18m (07-01.75), the sixth-best in program history.
The women earned three individual MAC titles, with former Eagles Alsu Bogdanova and Sydney Meyers were named Most Valuable Performer and Most Outstanding Track Performer, respectively. Current assistant distance coach and former EMU student-athlete Natalie Cizmas claimed the individual MAC title in the 800m run, completing the race in 2:10.16, while placing second in the mile run in 4:50.01.
