Swim Remains in Fourth After Day Two of Denison Invitational

The Eagles have 729.5 points after the second day of competition

GRANVILLE, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University swim team remains in fourth place with 729.5 points, as it completed the second day of the Denison Invitational, hosted by Denison University, at the Trumbull Aquatic Center Friday, Dec. 6.
How it Happened
Eastern came away with 114 points in the relay events, placing sixth in both the 200-yard medley relay (Kiersten Russell (Clinton, Mich./Saline), Abby Szadorski (Oswego, Ill./Oswego East), Tristen Mina (Santa Clara, Calif./The King's Academy), Emma Littrell (Taylor Mill, Ky./St. Henry District) (1:44.20 – 58 points) and 800-yard freestyle relay (Azra Umut (Istanbul, Turkey/Fenerbahce), Littrell, Nehir Oz (Istanbul, Turkey/Cevre), Russell) (7:39.21 – 56 points).
Outside of the relay events, the 400-yard IM finals highlighted the night for the Eagles, as they landed three in the top-10 standings. Oz led the Green and White, placing third in a personal-best 4:28.97. She was followed Szadorski in fourth in 4:29.09 and Morgan Hofmeister (Powell, Ohio/Liberty) in ninth in 4:36.22. Eastern had three other swimmers in the finals, as they grabbed 128 points in the event.
Umut spearheaded EMU in the 100-yard backstroke finals, securing 10th place in a personal-best 56.32. She was immediately followed by Russell in 11th in 56.76, while Sang slotted 17th in 58.16. Combined with two other Eastern swimmers in the C final, the Eagles notched 62 points in the event.
Szadorski paced Eastern in the 100-yard breaststroke finals, earning sixth-place in the A final in 1:03.85. Riess Estep (Smyrna, Ga./Whitefield Academy) was the lone Eagle in the B final, placing 17th in 1:05.91. Two more Eagles swam in the C final and Eastern came away with 49 points.
The trio of Mina, Olivia Clarino (Toronto, Ontario/Lawrence Park Collegiate), and Siporah Sang (London, Ontario/Sir Frederick Banting Secondary) grabbed 47 points in the 100-yard butterfly final. Mina placed 12th in 56.32, followed by Clarino (13th – 56.98), and Sang (18th – 58.95).
Littrell and Ashley George (Waukesha, Wis./Waukesha) scored in the 200-yard freestyle finals as the duo came away with 31 points in total.
After day two, the Eagles remain in fourth place with 729.5 points.
