YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com)
– The Eastern Michigan University women's basketball team saw Sisi Eleko record a 17-point, 16-rebound double-double and Brooklyn Thrash post 15 points, but it was not enough as the Eagles dropped a 66-57 decision to visiting Alabama A&M University, Nov. 9, inside the George Gervin GameAbove Center. The loss dropped the Eagles to 0-2 on the season while the Bulldogs improved to 1-1.

How It Happened
In a fast-paced, up-and-down game, the visitors claimed a 16-13 lead after the first quarter of play before the Eagles out-scored their foes, 15-12, in the second quarter to knot things at 28-28 at halftime. From there, both teams battled back and forth for the lead with the Bulldogs taking a 45-43 lead into the fourth quarter where the Eagles tried to stay in it, but a 21-14 scoring burst led AAMU to the win.

Neither team was able to find a shooting rhythm in the game as the Eagles finished shooting 34 percent to the Bulldogs' 33 percent shooting that included a 0-of-10 clip from three, where EMU was 5-of-25. The major difference came at the free throw line where the visitors hit 28-of-40 attempts from the charity stripe compared to the Eagles' 16-of-24 day.

Game Notes
» Sisi Eleko (Montreal, Quebec/New Hope Academy/Canisius) collected her first double-double of the season and the 19th of her career as she finished the game with 17 points and 10 rebounds, including seven offensive rebounds. Eleko, who scored 28 points in her debut, Nov. 4, was 5-of-11 from the floor and 7-of-10 from the stripe while adding one assist.
» Brooklyn Thrash (Wayne, Ohio/Elmwood/Canisius)) finished the game with a season-high 15 points, leaving her just one shy of her career high of 16 points that she scored with Canisius, Nov. 20, 2022, against Binghamton. Thrash was 6-of-9 from the floor, including a perfect 2-of-2 from three, while adding five boards, two assists, and one steal.
» Olivia Westphal (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park/Duquesne) continued to have a hot hand as she drained three more triples, bringing her season total to eight. Westphal, who finished with nine points, recorded multiple made three-pointers in back-to-back games for just the second time in her career after hitting three at Ohio, Jan. 20, 2024, and two at Kent State, Jan. 24, 2024. A career 4.4 points per game scorer, Westphal is averaging 14.5 points per game through two contests this year.
» Although brief, Olivia DiFranco (Elyria, Ohio/Midview) made her collegiate debut against the Bulldogs. The freshman entered the game with 20 seconds remaining.
» Both of EMU's games in 2024 have finished with a margin of 10 points or less, including the four-point loss to Texas State, Nov. 4. Last year, the team played 29 games with only 12 finishing within a 10-point margin, of which, the Eagles were 3-9 overall.

Historical Notes
» With the loss, the Eagles fell to 0-2 on the year while the Bulldogs moved to 1-1.
» Eastern is 0-1 in its series with Alabama A&M and 3-1 all-time against members of the SWAC (3-0 vs. Florida A&M).
