Hughes Leads Men's Golf at The Indy at Forest Hills

RICHMOND, Ind. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University men's golf team sent four individuals to compete at The Indy at Forest Hills Friday, Oct. 4, with Lucas Hughes leading the way by finishing tied for ninth in the non-team scored event at Forest Hills Country Club in Richmond, Ind. The tournament featured 51 players that each played 36 holes on the par-70, 6,260-yard course.

How It Happened
Hughes (Bend, Ore./Central Christian/Grand Canyon) was the top finisher for Eastern has he carded a two-over 142 (72-70) to place tied for ninth, his first top 10 finish as an NCAA Division I golfer. Hughes' score, which included his first par-or-better round at Eastern, tied for the 11th-lowest score for a two-round tournament in program history and the first added to the chart since 2013.

Pietro Fenoglio (Torino, Italy/Liceo Amerigo Vespucci/TCU) tied for 12th with a 3-over 143 (71-72), marking his two lowest rounds recorded at Eastern. His first-round 71 is his second-best round as a collegiate player, surpassed only by the 69 he carded in the second round of the Pauma Valley Invitational, March 18, 2024, while playing for his previous institutions, Texas Christian University.

The remaining two Eagles in the field included Matthew Rastogi (Toronto, Ontario/Bayview Glen Independent) and Guillaume Pauquette (La Minerve, Quebec/Baylor School), who placed tied for 34th and tied for 42nd, respectively. Rastogi finished with a 9-over, 149 (72-77) while Paquette, who made his collegiate debut, finished with a 14-over, 154 (73-81).

The remaining members of the team will compete at The Island at West Bay Collegiate Invitational, hosted by Florida Gulf Coast University, Sunday-Monday, Oct. 6-7, at the West Bay Club in Estero, Fla.
