RECAP: VIRTUES
The soggy Virtues Intercollegiate (Sept. 28-29) saw all teams finish the first round Saturday and start their second round of play with darkness and rain halting action late Saturday. The field finished the second round Sunday morning, but continued rain in the area prevented the third round from being played. Overall, the 2-under, 575 carded by the Eagles, the second lowest in program history, placed them third overall with Michigan (283-276=559) and James Madison (282-280=562) taking the top two spots, finishing at 17-under and 14-under, respectively.
Daniel Robles Delval led the way for the Eagles as he fired a 2-under 142 (71-71) to finish in a six-way tie for seventh place. His two rounds at 71 in just his second event with Eastern marked the first time he fired under par in all rounds played and marked his second-best finish in a two-round event as a collegiate player. His best came March 27-28, 2023, with Rogers State at the NSIC Preview Invitational where he won the event with a six-under 138.
Both James Baxter and Bavake Sihota finished tied for 23rd as both shot 1-over 145. For Baxter (71-74), his opening-round score marked his third sub-par round of the season while Sihota (73-72) has now recorded at least one round of par or better in each of the three tournaments he has played for Eastern. Tim Chan finished tied for 30th as he finished 2-over at 146 (69-77) with his opening round 69 standing as his low round on the season and his seventh of 69-or-less in the last two seasons. Rory McDonald-O'Brien placed tied for 51st at six-over 150 (76-74) in his second tournament for the Eagles.
ON THE HORIZON
The final tournament of the 2024 fall schedule awaits the Eagles in three weeks when Eastern ventures to the White Sands Invitational at the The Ocean Club Golf Course on Paradise Island in the Bahamas. The three-day event, hosted by West Virginia University, will see teams play 18 holes each day.
