Collectively, the Eastern programs posted 12 personal-best and two performances that rank inside the program top 10
ANN ARBOR, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University men's and women's track and field teams competed at Michigan Invitational, a non-scoring meet hosted by the University of Michigan at the U-M Indoor Track Building, Friday-Saturday, Jan 26-27.
Meet Notes
» The Eagles posted 15 personal bests, as the women posted eight while the men notched seven over the weekend.
» EMU won two events and added three more second place finishes and one third place in the women's meet while the men won three events, finishing second twice and third once.
How it Happened
Saraiah Walkes (Manatee County, Fla./The-Out-Of-Door-Academy) won the 200m with a PR of 24.06, the eighth best time in program history. Alyson Davis (Summerfield, N.C./Weaver Academy for Visual and Performing Arts) also posted a PR of 25.22 in the 200m.
Kyra Buffen (Columbus, Ga./Buford-Benedict) won the triple jump with a leap of 12.09m (39 feet, 8 inches).
Chloie Musta (Mesick, Mich./Cadillac) was second in the 600m with a PR of 1:34.05, Eva Orlich (San José, Costa Rica/IEM Bilingual) took second in the 400m with a time of 29.51.
The 4x400m team of Walkes, Makiya Worthy (Federal Way, Wash./St Martin's/Oakland/Federal Way), Josephine Oloye (Iwaro-Oka, Nigeria/Geomi Secondary School/Tayelolu Memorial) and Noriyah Johnson (Chania, Greece/Second General Abilene Christian) took second in 3:46.17.
Paige Marchant (London, Ontario/Catholic Central) took third in the 800m in 2:09.42 and set a personal-best in the mile in 4:41.93 for a third-place finish. In her first time running the event, Marchant's mile time ranks as the sixth-fastest in Eastern history, marking her third time this season in which she has entered the program top 10.
Faith Rono (Eldoret, Kenya/Middle Tennessee State) (4:53.15) and Esme Davies (Lake District, England/Queen Elizabeth Grammar School) (5:04.46) both posted PR's in the mile.
Natalie Buratczuk (Saint Charles, Ill./Saint Charles North) posted a PR of 1.66m (5 feet, 5.25 inches) in the high jump and Megan Rybitski (Dayton, Ohio/Wayne) had a PR of 3.55m (11 feet, 7.75 inches) in the pole vault
On the men's side, Ryan Johnson (Springboro, Ohio/Springboro) posted a PR of 21.11m (69 feet, 3.25 inches) to win the weight throw, tying for the fifth best throw in school history while Jake McEachern (Lloydminster, Alberta/Lloydminster Comprehensive) also posted a PR (18.36m/60 feet, 3 inches) in the event.
Almighty Williamson (Baltimore, Md./Digital Harbor/Barton C.C.) won the 60m hurdles in 8.08, Callum Robinson (Goderich, Ontario/St. Anne's Catholic Secondary School/Simon Fraser) won the 200m with a PR of 21.14
Gabe Singh (Toledo, Ohio/Sylvania/Northview/Oakland) took second in the 600m (1:20.53) and Yvan Lopes Ribeiro (Nice, France/Lycée Honoré d'Estiennes d'Orves/American International) was second in the long jump with a bound of 7.08m (23 feet, 2.75 inches).
Formula Thompson (St. Catherine, Jamaica/Jamaica/College Nebraska) took third in the triple jump with a leap of 14.54m (47 feet, 8.5 inches) for a third place finish.
Also for the Eagles, Ronnie Brandal (Huron,Ohio/Huron) had a PR of 1:51.76 in the 800m and Grant Sweningson (North Tustin, Calif./Foothills) posted a PR of 4:13.89 in the mile.
Cason Doolittle (Findlay, Ohio/Liberty Benton) posted a PR of 7.50 in the 60m during the heptathlon while Samuel Jeffery (Fonthill, Ontario/E.L. Crossley Secondary) had a PR of 10.98m (36 feet, 0.25 inches) in the shot put during the heptathlon.
