Track and Field Preps for Michigan Invitational

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University track and field teams will compete at the Michigan Invitational, hosted by the University of Michigan, Friday-Saturday, Jan. 26-27.
Meet Information
The meet will begin at noon Friday and 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the U-M Indoor Track Building in Ann Arbor, Mich.

Last Time Out
Eastern Michigan competed at home at the Bowen Field House on Saturday for the first time since 2020 as the Eagles hosted the inaugural Bob Parks Memorial Invitational.
The meet saw four Eagles, three on the women's side, post EMU indoor top 10 performances while there were 30 personal-best marks posted, 18 on the women's side and 12 on the men's team.
Saraiah Walkes (Manatee County, Fla./The-Out-of-Door-Academy) won the 60 meters with a personal-best time of 7.47, tying her with former Eagle Vania Nelson for the 10th fastest time in Eastern history.
Paige Marchant (London, Ontario/Catholic Central) won the 800 meters with a time of 2:09.37, the sixth best time in EMU history.
Claire Allen (Sandwich, Ill./Sandwich Community) posted a personal best of 13.16 meters (43 feet, 2 inches) in the shot put, the ninth best mark in school history to place fifth.
Micah Martin (Clinton Township, Mich./L'anse Creuse) (high jump - 1.70m (5-07.00), Faith Rono (Eldoret, Kenya/ Middle Tennessee State) (mile run - 4:59.55), and Josephine Oloye (Iwaro-Oka, Nigeria/Geomi Secondary School/Tayelolu Memorial) (400m dash – 57.13) also posted wins to lead the way for the Eagles women's team.
On the men's side, Formula Thompson (St. Catherine, Jamaica/Jamaica College/Nebraska) won the long jump with a personal-best mark of 7.46 meters (24 feet, 5.75 inches) which is 8th best in program history.
Eastern won six other events in the men's competition led by Yvan Lopes Ribeiro (Nice, France/Lycée Honoré d'Estiennes d'Orves/American International) who won both the triple jump (14.43 meters/47 feet, 4 inches) and the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 7.92.
On the track, Gabe Singh (Toledo, Ohio/Sylvania Northview/Oakland) won the 400 meters in 49.02, Sam Peterson (Charlevoix, Mich./Charlevoix) won the 3,000 meter in 8:29.51 while in his first collegiate mile, Kian Wiles (Hull, England/St. Mary's College) won with a time of 4:10.68.
In the field events, Brendan Hill (Huber Heights, Ohio/Wayne) captured the high jump (2.10 meters/6 feet, 10.75 inches) while Jacob Niedzwiecki (Toledo, Ohio/Whitmer) won the pole vault (4.75 meters/15 feet, 7 inches).

The Eagles will be back in action next weekend at the Meyo Invitational, hosted by the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Ind. in the two-day meet, Friday-Saturday, Feb 2-3.
