ATHENS, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) -- The Eastern Michigan University women's basketball team will continue Mid-American Conference play as it readies to take a trip to Ohio University, Saturday, Jan. 20, where the Eagles will face the Bobcats inside the Convocation Center as the first part of an away doubleheader with the EMU men's team.
 
ON AIR
Saturday's game will be broadcast on ESPN+ with a 1 p.m. tip. Fans can listen to the game as Tom Helmer will have the call live on WEMU Radio (89.1 FM) and the Varsity Network App. Fans can also follow the action via live stats at EMUEagles.com/livestats. Additionally, the team's official Twitter account, @EMUWBB, will provide score updates throughout the contest.
 
BACK IN #MACTION
The Green and White's 2023-24 campaign marks the 43rd season Eastern Michigan will compete as a member of the Mid-American Conference. Playing a league schedule since the 1981-82 campaign, EMU has compiled a 307-404 record against conference opponents all-time.
 
THE KE'SHA EFFECT 
With the 53-48 comeback conference victory over Miami, Jan. 17, interim Head Coach Ke'Sha Blanton recorded her fourth career win in just her seventh game leading the team after debuting against IUPUI, Dec. 15. Additionally, the league win marked the first MAC win at home under Blanton's guidance.
    Blanton went 3-0 in her first three games as head hancho joining former coach AnnMarie Gilbert as the only two EMU coaches to win their first three contests.
 
NATIONALLY RANKED TAYRA
Tayra Eke's 2.4 blocks per game is good for first in the MAC and 18th nationally while her 36 season blocks also leads the league and is ranked top-25 in the nation.
 
EKE'S MULTI-BLOCK PERFORMANCE
Tayra Eke recorded multiple blocks in the win over Miami, Jan. 17, for the ninth time this season and the fifth consecutive. Last season, the junior recorded the feat in 17 contests.
 
TERRIFIC TAYRA
Tayra Eke's 12 points and 11 rebounds against Miami, Jan. 17 was good for her fourth season double-double and the ninth of her career. The last time the junior posted double figures in both points and rebounds was two games prior when she posted 15 points and 12 rebounds against BGSU, Jan. 10.
    Additionally, her 12 points against the RedHawks marked the sixth consecutive game with double-digit points. It was the eighth of the season and the 21st of her career.
 
SHARP-SHOOTING SMITH
Sophomore Olivia Smith connected on three shots from beyond the arc in the conference win over the RedHawks, Jan. 17, going 3-for-6 (.500). It was the 11th contest this season in which Smith has made a single three-pointer. Last season, the then-rookie led the team in triples recording a single make in 25 total games. Her longest streak of consecutive games with a made triple was 13 (Dec. 17, 2022- Feb. 1, 2023).
 
SMITH FOR THREE
Sophomore Olivia Smith's three triples against Miami, Jan. 17, marked the third contest of the season in which the sophomore has recorded three or more made threes and the 11th of her career. She currently leads the Eagles with 21 made triples on the season.
 
HELPFUL EAGLES
Three Eagles assisted on a bucket three or more times in the win over Miami, Jan. 17. Olivia Smith provided a team-leading four assists, marking the third time this season with three or more helpers in one game. Additionally, it was Tayra Eke's fifth season contest with three or more assists and Lachelle Austin's fourth.
 
ROOKIE IN THE STARTING FIVE
Freshman Cali Denson was in the starting lineup for the 14th consecutive game after doing so for the first time in her career in the road game at Georgia Southern University, Nov. 11. Denson continues to be the only EMU freshman this season to be in the starting five.
 
THE BLOCKING BATTLE
EMU won the blocking-battle against Miami, 9-2. It was the sixth time this season the Eagles have out-blocked their opponent and the third consecutive. Last season, the team recorded more blocks than its foe in 19 contests.
 
THE NINE TEAM BLOCKS
The Green and White's nine team blocks versus Miami, Jan. 17, ties for eighth in EMU single-game history and is the most since Dec. 30, 2018, when the team posted nine against Northwood University.
 
FORCING TURNOVERS
The Eagles forced 20 CMU turnovers in the setback, Jan. 13. It marked the fourth time this season in which EMU has forced 20 or more turnovers in a single game, the most being 25 against IUPUI, Dec. 15.
 
THE EAGLES FROM THREE
The victory over Miami, Jan. 17, marked the sixth time this season in which the EMU offense has produced six or more made triples. The team recorded their season high of eight at IUPUI, Dec. 15. Furthermore, it was the second-straight game in which the Eagles have made six three-pointers after doing so against CMU, Jan. 13.
 
KEEP THEM UNDER 50
EMU allowed just 48 Miami points, Jan. 17, tied for the lowest number of points scored of any MAC foe this season after holding Toledo to 48, marking just the fourth time the Eagles have kept their opponent under 50. The Green and White are 3-1 in said games.
 
LAST TIME AGAINST THE BOBCATS
In their last meeting, Lachelle Austin scored 25 points, while Ce'Nara Skanes added 21 en route to a 74-64 victory over the Bobcats on the road, March 4. The win secured a spot for EMU in the MAC tournament held March 8-11 inside the RocketMortgage Fieldhouse in Cleveland, Ohio.
    The Eagles had three players score in double figures, led by Austin, who had 25 points, six rebounds and four assists. Skanes added her 31st career double-double with 21 points and 11 rebounds and Tayra Eke chipped in as well with 12 points, eight rebounds, three steals and two blocks.
 
ALL-TIME VS. OHIO
Saturday's matchup will mark the 68th meeting between EMU and Ohio. The Bobcats lead the all-time series, 39-28, with the Eagles coming away with the most recent win, a 74-64 decision, March 4, 2023, inside the Convocation Center. EMU looks for its 29th overall win against Ohio and pick up interim Head Coach Ke'sha Blanton's first victory over the Bobcats.
 
ON THE HORIZON
Eastern will continue conference play as it stays on the road for a meeting with the Kent State University Golden Flashes, Wednesday, Jan. 24, at 7 p.m. in Kent, Ohio.
