Track and Field Set to Host First Home Meet Since 2020 With Bob Parks Memorial

– The Eastern Michigan University track and field programs will host its first home meet in four seasons as the Eagles are slated to welcome oppositions to Bowen Field House for the Bob Parks Memorial meet, Saturday, Jan. 20, at 10 a.m.

Fans can follow along with the meet via a live stats link that can be accessed via EMUEagles.com/livestats. Also, a post-meet recap will be posted to EMUEagles.com following the completion of the contest. A PDF of the final results will be attached to the recap.

Saturday, the Eagles will welcome teams from Ball State University (W), Bowling Green State University (W), the University of Detroit Mercy (M/W), Madonna University (M/W), Oakland University (M/W), the University of Toledo (W), and the University of Windsor (M/W).
 
EMU will put on a senior day celebration, recognizing all track and field seniors at roughly 12:30 p.m. Additionally, there will be a multitude of food trucks parked outside of Bowen Field House for spectators to enjoy throughout the day. Admission to the meet is free of cost, however spectators will have to pay a small fee for parking.

The men were led by Brendan Hill (Huber Heights, Ohio/Wayne) who took home the gold in the high jump with a jump of 2.07m (6-09.50). Hill was joined by freshman standout Ryan Johnson (Springboro, Ohio/Springboro) and Yvan Lopes Ribeiro (Nice, France/Lycée Honoré d'Estiennes d'Orve/American International), who also finished first in their respective events. Johnson placed first in the weight throw for the second consecutive meet, this time with a toss of 20.31m (66-07.75) while Lopes Ribiero finished first in the long jump, leaping 7.09m (23-03.25).
 
Kayenn Mabin (Kalamazoo, Mich./Kalamazoo Central) also had a strong day, setting personal-best marks in the 60m hurdles (7.99 – third place) and the 300m dash (35.76 – 11th place).
 
The Eastern women particularly excelled in the field events. Micah Martin (Clinton Township, Mich./L'anse Creuse) earned the top finish of the day for the Eastern women as she placed second in the high jump with a leap of 1.68m (5-06.00). Senior thrower Miranda Cadwell (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield South) would also earn silver with her heave of 18.45m (60-06.50) in the weight throw.
 
Newcomer Mariia Yelanska (Dnipro, Ukraine) excelled in her first collegiate meet, placing third in the triple jump with a personal-best bound of 11.41m (37-05.25). Antonia Woods (Winchester, Ohio/Groveport Madison) also had a strong showing in the event, finishing fifth with a jump of 10.98m (36-00.25), marking a personal-best for the senior.

The Eagles will return to the University of Michigan and the U-M Indoor Track Building for the second time in the 2023-24 season for their next meet, the Michigan Invitational, Friday-Saturday, Jan. 26-27.
