Eagles posted the second-highest GPA in NCAA Division I in their inaugural season

NORTH BOROUGH, Mass. (EMUEagles.com) -- The Eastern Michigan University lacrosse team posted one of the top grade-point averages in the nation during the 2023 season and, for its efforts, has been named to the 2023 Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Academic Merit Squads, it was announced today, Aug. 9.

The Eagles combined to post a collective GPA of 3.723 during their inaugural season, which ranked second among all programs in NCAA Division I and trailed only Harvard University, who finished at 3.781. Jacksonville University was third in the division at 3.720. Previously, Eastern was named an IWLCA Academic Honor Squad, which stood as the first national academic award the Eagles have attained in their short history.

IWLCA Academic Honor Squad recognition is given annually to women's lacrosse programs that carried a 3.2 or higher GPA through the academic year and the Eagles were one of 290 teams across the nation to receive the accolade with teams from NCAA Division I, II, III, and NAIA making up the list. EMU also was one of 102 schools from NCAA Division I to earn the honor.

As a team, Eastern sported a 3.723 GPA throughout the 2022-23 academic year, which ranked as the highest among all athletic programs on campus. Individually, eight Eagles currently hold a perfect 4.00 GPA.

Individually, the duo of Tracy Grollman (Annapolis, Md./Annapolis Area Christian School) and Avery Schwab (Dublin, Ohio/Dublin-Scioto) were named College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District At-Large honorees for the first national individual academic awards in program history.
