Newcomers bring wealth of scoring, experience to Ypsilanti

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) -- Eastern Michigan University lacrosse has added five newcomers to its 2024 roster, Head Coach Sara Tisdale announced today, July 25. The group includes four transfers and one freshman with all five student-athletes set to join the program this fall and compete in the Eagles' second varsity season in 2024.

"Liv, Addie, Laurelle, Mak, and Kloey were all recruited to EMU because they already live our program values," Tisdale said. "These players are proven champions on the field and in the classroom and we are confident they will have an immediate impact on our program. We will look for them to add strength to our offensive end, transition game, and around the draw circle."

The newest members of the team features four transfers in graduate students Liv Dameron (Macomb, Mich./Dakota/Albion) and Addie Pastor (Kalamazoo, Mich./Mattawan/Albion), redshirt sophomore Laurelle Weisbrod (Delta, B.C./Ecole South Delta Secondary/Concordia-St. Paul), and redshirt freshman Mak Grisinger (Bloomington, Ill./Bloomington/Central Michigan) along with incoming freshman Kloey Merenuk (Hartland, Mich./Hartland).

Dameron comes to Eastern after graduating from Albion College where she was a two-year member of the lacrosse team while also playing four years for the basketball program. In her two seasons of lacrosse, Dameron tallied 30 goals and nine assists for 39 points, including 27 scored in 2023 when she ranked third on the team. She had a career day in her final game with AC, a 16-10 victory at Trine University, as she tallied five goals and added two assists for seven points while also collecting five ground balls. Overall, the 2023 All-MIAA Second Team honoree helped the Britons capture the 2022 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) conference title.

Pastor, who also comes to EMU after graduating from Albion, was the Britons' top scorer in 2023 and one of the best in nation among NCAA Division III schools as she averaged 4.38 goals per game, the 14th-highest scoring clip nationally. Pastor poured in an AC-record 70 goals in 2023 to bring her career total to 152. On her way to the top scoring mark, she tallied double-digit goals totals in two games, including a school-record 13 goals at Hanover College, Feb. 28, a total that tied for the most by any player in all three NCAA divisions in 2023 while also ranking tied for seventh across all three divisions in NCAA history. Pastor, a three-year team captain for the Britons, also was strong in other areas on the field as she averaged 2.7 draw controls and 1.4 ground balls per game throughout her career.

Grisinger is the lone transfer coming into the program that has not played in a collegiate game yet as she redshirted her freshman season with the Chippewas during the team's 2023 season. Prior to arriving in Mt. Pleasant, Mich., Grisinger was a standout at Bloomington High School in Bloomington, Ill., where she was a three-year varsity captain playing under her father, Andy. During that time, she netted 152 career goals, 76 of which came her senior season (2022). An all-state honoree as a senior, the two-time team MVP also played two years of volleyball and four years of basketball for BHS.

Merenuk is a 2023 graduate of Hartland High School in Hartland, Mich., where she played midfield for four years for the Eagles while serving as the team's captain her senior year. She tallied a team-high 58 goals as a senior as HHS advanced to the state semifinals for the second year in a row. An all-state and all-conference honoree, Merunuk, who also earned two varsity letters in golf, was named Hartland's female athlete of the year in 2023.

Weisbrod comes to Eastern after two previous stops, including Jacksonville University in Jacksonville, Fla., in 2021, before her most recent stop at Concordia University in St. Paul, Minn., for the past two seasons. Weisbrod, who did not play for the Dolphins, saw action in 11 contests for CSP Golden Bears where she tallied eight goals and three assists for 11 points overall. She brings a wealth of experience in numerous sports that include her playing boys' field and box lacrosse, girls' field lacrosse, soccer, basketball, and track & field. While playing on her provincial teams, she helped the girls' field lacrosse team to a gold medal while taking bronze in both soccer and boys' lacrosse.
