Track & Field Heads to Rochester for Elaine Leigh Invitational

ROCHESTER, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – After competing in a trio of meets in California last weekend the Eastern Michigan University men's and women's track and field teams will compete at the Elaine Leigh Invitational at Oakland Unversity, Thursday-Friday, April 20-21.
LAST TIME OUT: Angel Gazaway (Cincinnati, Ohio-Princeton) led the way for the EMU women with a pair of top ten finishes at the Beach Invitational. She was fourth in the 400 meter hurdles posting a personal best time of 59.91 while also placing sixth in the 100 hurdles (13.61).
Her time in the 400 hurdles is the fastest in the Mid-American Conference (MAC) this season, ranks as the seventh-fastest time in program history and makes her the seventh woman to finish the event in under 60 seconds in program record. Her time of 13.61 in the 100 hurdles was just three one-hundredths of a second of her best time of 13.58 tops in the MAC this season. She was also part of the 4x400 relay team which placed eighth in 3:42.30 at the Mt. SAC Relays.
Kaleb Simpson (Bexley, Ohio-St. Charles Prep) had a trio of top ten finishes and posted two top MAC times over the weekend to lead the men's team.
He was fifth in the 200 meters (21.18) and 10th in the 100 meters with a time of 10.43 at the Beach Invitational while also taking fourth as part of the 4x100 relay at the Mt. SAC Relay, the sixth-fastest time in program history and fastest in the MAC this spring at 40.25
The 4x100m relay consisted of Almighty Williamson (Baltimore, Md.-Digital Harbor-Barton CC), Simpson, Kyle Martin (Ypsilanti, Mich.-Ann Arbor Huron) and Richie Sadler (Greenville, S.C.-Greer-Coastal Carolina).
Simpson's time in the 100 (10.43) and his time in the 4x100 (40.25) are the fastest in the MAC this season while his time in the 200 would be third. He is already tied with the fastest time this spring.
Mt. SAC Relays
The Eagles posted 10 top ten finishes and eight personal bests led by Eddie Zuercher's (Rocky River, Ohio-Rocky River) third place finish in the 3,000 meter steeplechase with a personal best time of 9:01.62 while Yvan Lopes Ribeiro (Nice, France-Lycee Honore d'Edtiennes d'Orves-American International) placed fourth in the long jump (7.40 meters).
Dante Lander (Dayton, Ohio-West Carrollton-Central Michigan) placed sixth in the 400 meter hurdles (52.44), Payne Wylie (Elstow, Saskatchewan-Colonsay School) was eighth in the 110 meter hurdles in 14.54. Toby Gualter (Tawa New Zealand-Tawa College) placed eighth in the 5,000 meters elite with a personal best time of 13:53.25 while Brendan Hill (Huber Heights, Ohio-Wayne) was 10th in the high jump (2.00 meters) and Sadler took 10th in the triple jump (14.74 meters).
On the women's side, Micah Martin (Clinton Township, Mich.-L'anse Creuse) was the top finisher with a sixth place finish in the high jump with a personal best lump of 1.68 meters.
The 4x400 relay of Gazaway, Mair Edwards (Basingstoke, England-The Costello School), Chevonne Wheeler (Redford, Mich.-Divine Child), and Noriyah Johnson (Chania Greece-Second General-Abilene Christian) placed eighth with a time of 3:42.30.
The Eagles had five men set PR's and three women.
Bryan Clay Invitational
Fleur van der Linden (Drunen, Netherlands-d'Oultremont College) posted a personal best vault 3.60 meters to place third in the pole vault C while Marta Moreno (Wassenaar, Netherlands-American School of The Hague) took third in the 1,500 meters B with a PR of 4:34.82 to lead the Eagles. Maura Lane (Cary, N.C.-Panther Creek-Campbell) placed seventh in the pole vault B group also with 3.60 meters.
Miranda Cadwell (Plainfield, Ill.-Plainfield South) also finished in the top ten as she finished eighth in the discus (43.68 meters) as four women placed in the top 10.
On the men's side, Newlyn Stephenson (Gary, Ind.-Thea Bowman Leadership Academy) was the top EMU finisher as he placed second in the hammer with a throw of 63.93 meters.
Jacob Niedzwiecki (Toledo, Ohio-Whitmer) was fourth in the pole vault B (4.75 meters), Brendan Hill (Huber Heights, Ohio-Wayne) was seventh in the high jump A (2.02 meters) to round out the trio of men placing in the top 10 at the Bryan Clay Invitational.
Six men posted personal best times in the 1,500 meters over a pair of races while Moreno and Chloie Musta (Mesick, Mich.-Caillac) (4:46.00) both also posted personal bests in the 1,500 meters for the women's team.
Beach Invitational
Gazaway led the way for the women with the pair of top ten finishes and Kyra Buffen (Columbus, Ga.-Buford-Benedict) finished fourth in the triple jump with a personal best of 12.31 meters.
On the men's side, Simpson had his pair of top ten finishes and Lander was the top men's finisher as he placed fourth in the 400 meter hurdles (52.28) and Sadler took fifth in the triple jump (15.36 meters). Buffen (triple jump) also posted a personal best on the women's side.
