QUICK SERVES:
» The program's 48th season began with the announcing of a new coaching staff. Head coach Kevin Foeman joined the Eagles in March and added Lainey Stephenson as his assistant coach. Additionally, the program named Remy Foeman as the Director of Volleyball Operations.
» This season, the Eagles opened their nest to four "true" freshmen and five transfers to complete their "soar of eagles".
» Sept. 2, 2023, marked the day first-year head coach Kevin Foeman earned his first win as an Eastern Michigan Eagle as he and his team overcame Western Illinois University, 3-2, in the Popcorn Classic, for the first win of the 2023 season. Since then, the Eagles earned their second win of the season in a 3-0 sweep over the Cougars of Chicago State University, Sept. 8, marking Foeman's 250th career match. The third win of the campaign came against a MAC member as the Eagles topped the RedHawks, 3-1, Oct. 27.
» Callie Minshew has led the Eagles in kills in 21 of the 25 total matches of the 2023 campaign, recording double-figure kills in all but two. Additionally, she recorded a career-high double-double with a team-leading 25 kills and 21 digs, Sept. 26, against the Chippewas. The 25 kills tied for fifth-most in a single match in program history.
» Samantha Basham hit the 1,000 career kills milestone, Oct. 21, as the fifth-year collected 12 total kills against the Broncos, Oct. 20-21. Since then, she has led the team in kills in two of the last three matches.
» Callie Minshew needs just one more service ace to reach the 100 career serving aces milestone after recording a career-high four against Miami, Oct. 27.
CALLIE'S CAREER MILESTONE: Callie Minshew sits just one service ace away from hitting her career milestone mark of 100 serving aces. The graduate student has registered a single service ace in 17-of-27 matches played this season and leads the team with 29 total aces.
GRAB A SHOVEL, WE'RE DIGGIN': As a team, the Green and White are averaging 15.75 digs per set, good for third in the MAC behind Western Michigan and Toledo, respectively. Leading the Eagles in the category for the 2023 season is Hannah Howard with 348 total digs, with 329 of those coming against MAC opponents and ranking the freshman ninth with 3.74 digs/set. Howard has led EMU in digs in 15 matches and has recorded double-digit digs in all 15 as well.
THE GREEN AND WHITE WALL: As a team, EMU recorded seven and four total blocks in the series at Ohio, respectively, led by four from Elle McLoughlin, Nov. 3, and three from Samantha Basham, Nov. 4. Both the seven and four stops topped Ohio's totals, marking the team's eighth and ninth match out-blocking its opponent and the fourth consecutive after doing so against Bowling Green State University (Oct. 26), Miami (Oct. 27), and Ohio (Nov. 3). It marks the first time this season that EMU has won the blocking battle in four-straight matches.
CALLIE'S CALLING BALL: Callie Minshew's nine digs against the Bobcats in the first match was tied for the team lead, marking just the second time this season that she led the team in digs in a match (Sept. 26 against Central Michigan University). Then, Minshew's 12 digs in the second matchup led the team, marking the third time this season and second-consecutive match. The graduate-student recorded double-figure digs for the 10th time this season and 29th time in her career.
HUNGRY HOWIE: Hannah Howard's team-leading nine digs in the first match at Ohio were enough to mark her 15th contest of the season with the top total in digs. Additionally, the rookie recorded her first career kill in the first setback before recording her second career kill the following match. Howard went the first 25 matches of her career without a kill before tallying a kill in back-to-back matches. Howard also had the Eagles' lone service ace of the match.
EAGLES IN THE MAC: Callie Minshew's 3.55 kills per set ranks her sixth in the MAC while her 4.17 points per set is also good for sixth. Additionally, Elle McLoughlin leads EMU with 696 helpers on the season, which is good for 8.21 assists per set, ranking her seventh in the conference. Lastly, Hannah Howard ranks ninth in the league in terms of digs per set with 3.74, while Angel Baylark ranks 10th for her 0.86 blocks/set.
ALL-TIME VS. THE GOLDEN FLASHES: The Eagles hold an overall record of 37-23-1 against the Golden Flashes and have won four of the last 10 matches. EMU dominated Kent State for six consecutive matches from 2001 to 2006 and has almost evened out ever since. While leading the Golden Flashes all-time, the Eagles have managed to sweep KSU in 19 out of the 37 wins (.514).
LAST TIME AGAINST KSU: In their last match up, the Eagles racked up 12 blocks in a three-set loss to the Golden Flashes inside the George Gervin GameAbove Center, Oct. 8, 2022. Fifth-year senior Raeven Chase finished with nine kills to lead the Eagles attack while earning a hitting percentage of .471. Emma McMahon led the Eagles on the defensive end with 20 digs, accounting for almost half of the team total.
ALL-TIME VS. THE CHIPPEWAS: Starting in 1976, Eastern Michigan and Central Michigan have
competed against one another just two matches short of 100, with the Chippewas leading 67-31.
Oct. 7, 1986, marked the Eagles first program victory over Central, interrupting a 23-year win streak
in just three sets.
LAST TIME AGAINST CMU: Last time the two faced each other was when EMU opened the 2023 home season with a five-set loss to the Chippewas, Sept. 26, inside the George Gervin GameAbove Center. The Eagles were led by the double-doubles from Ava Siefke, who had 16 kills and 16 digs, Callie Minshew, who had 25 kills and 21 digs, and Elle McLoughlin, who had 44 assists and 14 digs. Samantha Basham added 11 kills to help the offense. On the defensive end, Hannah Howard chipped in with 20 digs to go with five blocks from Abigail Stanford.
ON THE HORIZON: At the conclusion of regular-season play, the top six teams in the MAC standings will
earn nods into the MAC Tournament, with the highest seed gaining home court advantage. The start of the tournament will see the bottom four duke it out for a chance at the top two-seeded. In instances where two teams are tied for a top-six position, the team with a better overall record would win the tie. Furthermore, in cases where the two institutions are also knotted in overall records, the team who performed best against the higher seeded teams within the regular season will get the upper hand.
