Sipsock, Lukowski net first-half goals; Falcons break tie in 88th-minute
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University soccer team dropped a 3-2 result against Mid-American Conference-leading Bowling Green State University Sunday, Oct. 8, at Cochrane Stadium despite first-half goals by freshman Olivia Sipsock (Medina, Ohio/Medina) and junior Meagan Lukowski (Bay City, Mich./Bay City) as the Falcons netted the game-winner in the 88th-minute.
How It Happened
BGSU scored just 2:48 into the match to take an early 1-0 lead.
Despite being outshot 14-2 in the first half, the Eagles took a 2-1 lead into the intermission as Sipsock blasted a 22-yard, left-footed strike past the BGSU keeper in the 29th-minute to level the match at 1-1 before Lukowski scored from 25 yards out off a counter-attack in the 42nd-minute. Lukowski assisted on Sipsock's goal while sophomore Lily Spotak (Palatine, Ill./William Fremd) assisted on Lukowski's goal.
The Eagles nearly extended their advantage in the 56th-minute off a Spotak corner, but the initial attempt in a crowded box was saved before the ball went out off an Eagle.
BGSU tied the match at 2-2 in the 60th-minute.
EMU appeared to have netted the go-ahead goal off a corner kick in the 67th-minute before the referee blew the play dead due to a foul.
The Falcons, which held a 24-7 advantage in shots and a 4-3 mark in corner kicks, scored the game-winning goal with 2:01 left to play.
