HOLLAND, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University swimming and diving program will split up for competition Friday, Jan. 13. The swimmers will compete in a quad meet in Holland, Mich., inside the Holland Aquatic Center, while the divers will head to Buffalo, N.Y., to compete in the University at Buffalo Diving Invite, Jan. 13-14.
The meet in Holland will be streamed live via Flo Sports while the two days of the Buffalo invitational will be streamed live via YouTube.
The quad meet in Holland, Mich., includes the University of Indianapolis, Grand Valley State University, and the University of Findlay. On the boards, this will be the seventh consecutive season UB has hosted its annual diving invitational. Eight teams will participate in the invite, including Buffalo, the University of Akron, Bowling Green State University, Duquesne University, Ohio University, St. Bonaventure University, and the University of Toledo.
LAST TIME OUT: The Eagles (1-4, 1-1 MAC) fell to Florida Gulf Coast University, 162-124, Jan. 5. Eastern won six events in the dual meet in Florida. Senior Carlin Hudson won the 100-yard freestyle for the Eagles with a mark of 53.34 and took the top spot in the 400-yard individual medley with a time of 4:36.86.
Freshman Alexandra Kudo won two of the freestyle events, finishing first in the 200-yard free (1:54.18) and the 500-yard free (5:05.70). Sophomore Ashley George won the 1,000-yard relay with a time of 10:56.05.
Five Eagle divers have qualified for the NCAA Zone Diving Championships, March 9-11, already one more than the previous year's mark. In the Denison Invitational, Dec. 3, the duo of Savannah Fisk and Ciara Wheeler both qualified for the championships. The qualification is the first of Fisk's and Wheeler's careers, respectively. Fisk and Wheeler join Keira Veltigian, Camryn Hughes and Rebekah Knapp whom all qualified for the postseason meet previously this season. Veltigian, Hughes and Knapp all made an appearance at the championships in 2021-22.
ON THE HORIZON: The Eagles will host Buffalo Saturday, Jan. 21, in a dual meet. The meet will take place inside Saline High School with the first event slated for 1:30 p.m.
