Track and Field Ready for Saturday Slate in Ann Arbor, Bowling Green

ANN ARBOR, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) -- The Eastern Michigan University men's and women's indoor track and field teams are set to make their second appearances on the campus of the University of Michigan is as many weeks, this time for the Michigan Invitational, set for Saturday, Jan. 14. A portion of each team will also be in Bowling Green, Ohio for the Falcon Early Bird Open, hosted by Bowling Green State University.
Last week, at the Wolverine Invitational, the teams combined to win 11 of the 27 total events. The total number of event wins, which came in the form of six first place finishes by the men, and five by the women, were the most of any team that competed at the event.
LAST TIME OUT: On the men's side, the 4x400m relay team of Richie Sadler (Greenville, S.C.-Greer), Callum Robinson (Goderich, Ontario-St. Anne's-Simon Fraser), Dante Lander (Dayton, Ohio-West Carrollton-Central Michigan) and Josh Flake (Oak Park, Mich.-Oak Park) took first place with a time of 3:19.245, more than seven seconds faster than any other participating team.
Lander who stole those show in the 60m hurdles, cruising to a first place finish in just 8.37 seconds, the second-fastest time of any Eagle in that event this season. In addition to his strong relay performance, Robinson also picked up a win in the 300m run, recording a time of 33.91 to take first place and give EMU yet another victory. The time was both a personal and team-best for Robinson and the Eagles this season.
In the field, Brendan Hill (Huber Heights, Ohio-Wayne) leaped a season-best 2.02m (6-foot-7-inches) in the high jump on the way to his event win. The finish fell just short of his career-best 2.06m jump that he recorded last season. Fellow Eagle Yvan Lopes Ribeiro (Nice, France-Lycée Honoré d'Estiennes d'Orves-American International) took home the long jump crown with a 7.29m (23-7) effort, the fourth-best of his career.
Not to be outdone by the men's squad, the women also put together an impressive first place finish in the 4x400m relay, finishing with a time of 3:52.11 to secure the victory. The run was more than five seconds better than second-place finisher, Michigan, as Saraiah Walkes (Manatee Country, Fla.-The Out-of-Door Academy), Tijana Japundzic (Belgrade, Serbia-Technical School "New Belgrade"), Tiffany Cernej-Garcia (Ann Arbor, Mich.-Pioneer), and Noriyah Johnson (Chania, Greece-Second General) combined for the effort.
It was a clean sweep in both fields in the 60m hurdles as well, where Alysse Wade (Mansfield, Ohio St. Peter's) took home the first place finish on the women's side. The senior finished with a time of 8.66 seconds to secure the win. Walkes, who was part of the relay win, also took home first place in the 300m; the sophomore crossed the finish line in 38.77, a new personal-best time.
