Senior takes home award after placing first at the Jeff Drenth Memorial
CLEVELAND, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) – Eastern Michigan University senior Baldvin Magnusson (Akureyri, Iceland-Hull University) reeled in the first Mid-American Conference's Runner of the Week award of the 2022 season, the MAC announced today, Sept. 7.
Magnusson started his MAC cross country title defense in a big way, setting a new personal-best of 14:57.4, and taking the crown home from the Jeff Drenth Memorial, Sept. 2. His time blew the competition out of the water, as he bested the second-place finisher by 10 seconds. The senior harrier also lowered his personal-best in the 5k by nearly a minute.
Magnusson's time led the Eagles on their way to a first place finish at the meet (29 points), putting them ahead of the second-place host Central Michigan (69) and USTFCCCA's fourth-ranked Great Lakes Region squad Michigan State (75).
The Eagles will take one week off to prepare for the Mel Brodt Open, Sept. 16, hosted by Bowling Green. The first race is scheduled to begin at 6:00 p.m. More information will be made available closer to the meet.
