EMU Soccer Announces 2022 Schedule

The Eagles’ slate includes 18 matches, eight of which will be played at home
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — Scott Hall, head coach of the Eastern Michigan University soccer program, announced his team's 2022 season schedule today, July 12, with the Eagles set to play 18 matches, including eight at home at Scicluna Field. The Eagles get things underway officially with a visit from Western Illinois on Thursday, August 18, in a 5 p.m. start.
NOTING THE SCHEDULE
• EMU will play 18 matches in the regular season including eight home matches at Scicluna Field
• The Eagles enter the season 245-223-60 all-time as a program, leaving them five wins shy of the 250-win milestone
• Speaking of milestones, EMU needs eight goals to reach 800 all-time on its ledger
• Defensively, two shutouts this year will mark 150 all-time while three at home would bring the all-time total to 75
• EMU's seven non-conference matches will come against seven different conferences, including the first-ever meeting with a team from the Ivy League and will face an SEC foe for just the second time ever and the first time in nearly 21 years
• New for 2022: the NCAA has amended its rules in regards to overtime... NO overtime will be played in the regular season (matches tied after 90 minutes end tied), but will be utilized in tournament play (conference and national)
Before jumping into the regular season, EMU will face a pair of local rivals in preseason exhibitions with both Oakland and Detroit Mercy. The first exhibition comes on the road against the Grizzlies on Sunday, August 7, at 7 p.m. The Eagles will then play host to the Titans at 5 p.m. on Thursday, August 11, to close out their preseason.
After opening the regular season at home against the Leathernecks, it will be two straight on the road for the Eagles as they travel to Illinois State (Sunday, August 21) and St. Bonaventure (Sunday, August 28). From there, the final two weeks of the non-conference slate will see two home matches and two road contests. Syracuse comes to town Thursday, September 1 (5 p.m.) before Dartmouth visits Ypsilanti Sunday, September 4 (1 p.m.). The match with the Orange will mark the first time a member of the ACC has played at Scicluna Field while the Big Green will be the initial meeting with an Ivy League foe.
The final weekend of the non-conference schedule sees the Eagles hit the road for a pair of games in the Bluegrass State. First, EMU will travel to face Morehead State (Thursday, September 8) before closing the trip at Kentucky (Sunday, September 11). The game with the Wildcats will be just the second in program history against a member of the SEC and the first since September 28, 2001, a 3-0 setback at Georgia.
The road to a Mid-American Conference crown officially gets underway for EMU Thursday, September 22, when the Eagles play host to Central Michigan at 4 p.m. EMU will then take to the road for games at Ball State (Sunday, September 25) and Akron (Thursday, September 29) to close out the month.
October will feature eight matches, all in conference play, with four each coming at home and on the road. The Eagles will open the month hosting Ohio at 1 p.m. Sunday, October 2, before a 4 p.m. match with Kent State on Thursday, October 6. EMU hits the road next with one match at Buffalo on Sunday, October 9, before returning home to face Toledo at 4 p.m. on Thursday, October 13.
The final four matches of the month see EMU head to Western Michigan (Sunday, October 16) and Northern Illinois (Thursday, October 20) before playing the final regular season home match on Sunday, October 23, at 1 p.m. against defending MAC champion Bowling Green. The regular season comes to a close Thursday, October 27, at Miami.
Sunday, October 30, will see the start of the MAC Playoffs as the quarterfinals will be held at two campus sites. Once again in 2022, the MAC will have six teams enter the playoffs with the quarterfinals featuring the #6 seed at the #3 seed and the #5 seed at the #4 seed to determine who advances to the semifinals. The semifinals and championship match will be hosted by the #1 seed in the tournament with the hosts and the #2 seed receiving byes into the semifinals.
