2022 Toyota USATF Outdoor Championships
EUGENE, Ore. (EMUEagles.com) - After an outstanding first season as a member of the Eastern Michigan University track & field program, rising junior Almighty Williamson (Baltimore, Md.-Digital Harbor (Barton C.C.)) will compete in the 110m hurdles at the 2022 Toyota USATF Outdoor Championships at Hayward Field, June 23-26.
"We're thrilled that Almighty qualified for his first USATF Championships, which will certainly not be his last," said Associate Head Coach Sterling Roberts. "He has represented the Green and Gold so well in his first year at Eastern, so to have him cap off his year representing us at the US Championships is very fitting. This meet is going to give Almighty invaluable experience, competing against the best in the US and the world, and we prepare him for the bright future that he has ahead of him."
Williamson, a former two-time NJCAA All-American, burst onto the scene in Ypsilanti, winning the 60m hurdles (6.93) at the Mid-American Conference Indoor Championships, Feb. 26-27, and 110m hurdles (13.73w) at the league's outdoor meet, May 12-14. The Baltimore native qualified for the NCAA East Preliminary Round in the 110H where he clocked in at 13.68 for 14th overall to qualify for the quarterfinals. Williamson's 13.68-second clip is the second-fastest time in school history, behind former Eagle Tiberia Patterson's time of 13.67 set in 1994. While he did not advance to the NCAA Outdoor Championships, Williamson's time did qualify him for the USATF Championships.
"We're excited that Almighty will have the chance to compete against the best hurdlers in the world," added Director/Head Coach Sue Parks. "He has a bright future ahead of him and we feel that this experience will be invaluable in his development."
The opening round of the 110H is set for Saturday, June 25 at 3:35 p.m. ET. The semifinals are scheduled for Sunday at 4:04 p.m. ET, followed by the finals at 5:54 p.m. ET that same day.
Three other members of the Eagle family will also be competing this weekend as former Eagle Donald Scott and former volunteer Coach Tori Franklin are both set for the triple jump, while former Eagle Willy Fink will tackle the 5000m race. The women's triple jump is slated for Saturday at 3:30 p.m. ET, while the men's triple jump final will start on Sunday at 3:15 p.m. ET. The men's 5K competition is scheduled for Sunday at 5:03 p.m. ET.
Live television coverage will be on NBC, USA, and CNBC, while fans can watch streaming the broadcast on USATF.TV and Peacock TV.
